Because the only path to enlightenment is through the pwning of n00bs.

N00bs pwn themselves, there is nothing to counter, let alone to strike.

No, no. You counter their trash talk; you strike their heads with round after round from an AK-47.

I should preface this post by saying I'm not a fan.

I have however, at times, been a competitive FPS gamer. I know the genre better than most. Counterstrike has survived as the main team based FPS for over 6 years simply because it is the best at what it does. It's a level playing field with huge scope for skill (no matter what the FPS is for dumb people brigade will tell you) and impeccable balance.

Pretenders have come and gone, same as they do with all the competitive gaming classics.......Quake3, Starcraft. TFT etc.

The only way games have made headway in the FPS market is by being duel oriented or allow more options like vehicles/other wrinkles like in the popular Battlefield games or America's Army. However, this last set of games are not quite what is required for a competitive circuit - CS in contrast has everything that is required in spades.

            I don't play the original Counter-Strike anymore. I play Counter-Strike: Source.

In fact, yesterday, I had some friends over and hooked up on a LAN and were joining servers and playing on the same team (and ghosting when we died ). We played for probably 6 hours or so. It was great fun. We smoked weed and played Counter-Strike and had football on TV (muted).

On Tuesday, we are going to get together again and play some more Counter-Strike Source. It is just great fun to be in the same room as people and be on an internet server. We usually stick together and rush the same way. Then, if someone dies, the dead person relays intel to the people who are alive. It is definitely not fair, and in fact, some servers have this "fade to black" thing where they try to prevent "ghosting" as it's called. Because it is really unfair to know where people are in the map when you are still alive. However, it is REALLY HILARIOUS!!!

I would say Counter-Strike (and now the upgraded Source version) is the greatest FPS ever made.
To us, it is the BEAST.

                no

Wolfenstein was a good singleplayer game, but the multiplayer sucks... even with the Enemy Territory mod...

it doesn't even come close to comparing to Counter-Strike Source...

I'll try to describe what I like about CS:S

-diverse selection of weapons and equipment (6 pistols, 5 submachine guns, 2 shotguns, 4 sniper rifles, 6 assault rifles, and the PARA to choose from ... and there are also grenades, flashbangs, smoke nades, and a knife)

-lots of people play it (so there are always lots of servers to play on)

                -lots of good maps

-money system for buying guns is based on your performance... i.e. you do good, you get to buy good guns...

-the game is constantly being updated with new content (a new player model for the CT's, the SAS model, is coming out soon, also, original CS maps are going to be ported to Source, and one new map is slated to be released soon)

-the warcraft 3 mod... I don't know if you have heard of it... it is a mod for CS that lets you choose different races and lets you build up XP points and you get abilities and stuff... it adds a new dimension to counterstrike. The abilities range from partial invisibility to damage bonuses, armor bonuses, enhanced speed and jumping, "vampire bullets" that steal health, and other cool stuff... even special abilities like a lightning attack and enhanced grenade damage for orcs... there is also a "superheroes" mod for regular CS that has over a dozen different races to choose from.
To us, it is the BEAST.

                      go to www.gametiger.net

search for a CS:Source server based on server name

search for a name using the following parameters "war3", "wc3", "warcraft"

then add some into your favorites and then connect to one that you get good ping at...

trust me, it will be awesome!

I'm just sad that they took out the tac shield for CS:Source. That was awesome.

                            original cs > *

source is for n00bs. don't think a lot of the mods.

like sava said, it's fun because it has lots of good maps and is a well balaned game. easy to learn and hard to master.
