You use the alliance button, select "Search" and then type Apolyton into the box. It lets you send a message (to Snotty, I believe, although the update came pretty quickly so I couldn't see properly - also, Wright-Philips had the ball
) to join it, and then tells you to wait for your acceptance/rejection.

I also note that some of the research requires 0 energy, but does this mean that there are advances that do require surplus energy? How much, and which?Comment
