  • My First Attempt to Make a 3-D Game Graphic (SEV)

So, as I am sure some of you here know (and more importantly give a damn about), SEV is in Beta testing and should be out this coming spring.

Now I am no fan of taking a perfectly good 4x space game and spending most of your time fitting it into a 3D engine than simply improving the gameplay. Especially since if it looks anything less than Homeworld 2 quality, a three year old game, I will concider the transition a failure. However, Malfador made the decision you you have to either like it or not or give up the game, which for me is impossible.

This of course left we with a problem. All the ship sets that I have taken with me from SEII to SE IV are now worthless. They are not 3D! So in a spasm of desperation I decided to school myself in 3D graphic creation from scratch and convert to the best of my ability.

Here is my first try, what do you all think?

This is just the basic model, I have to add alot of texture detail. Apparently the game can only handel so many polygons, so the detail is really in the texture.

Patroklos, there are a lot of tricks you can do to minimize polys while still having a good level of non-textural detail in a model. I'll post a few of the basic ones a little later to maybe help out
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

        It's a good beginning

Nedds quite some polish yet to be really great, but the base design is good, and it could do a really interesting vessel once it's polished

No, I don't think it should be left at that. You want out of the health care discusion because you know all the facts are not in your favor. We get horrible results dispite spending the most per person on health care in the world. Our system is fundimentally broken because we pay to much and large sections of our population get no coverage at all.
Thanks, I would really appreciate it.

I am slowely getting the tools down. I think I pretty much have the actual modeling down, but texturing is proving to be a real *****.

I actually distorted a 32 sided hollow tube
