                            • I looked on dictionary.com and while I found "fixer" the word "informal" is used in one of the definitions.

                              What kind of word is "fixer" and how would I use it in a sentence

                              The only example I can ever remember someone using is when speaking of buying a second hand house that needs work "It's a fixer-upper" but that is clearly slang.

                              • Either defn 1 or 3 from the first group would be acceptable (not informal). "A fixer of radios" is not an uncommon usage, if no longer really the primary word ("tech" being the current word ). "Fixer" is also (def 3) used in photographic developing, and that specific word is used (at least by the people at the U of C).
