  • Anyone else looking forward to Space Empires V?

    If so, what do you like about what they are doing with it?

      I am too, and you see my thread if you go back a few pages. There is not much news on the site except that they are doing beta tests.

      I sure hope they work a little on the AI. That would have made the game much more fun.

        Strategy First today sent out word announcing that they will be publishing Space Empires V, developed by Malfador Machinations. Scheduled for release in early 2006, Space Empires, as one would expect, is the fifth installment to a immersive strategy series (Space Empires IV review). This latest installment is reported by Malfador to have ae completely updated user interface, while including a real time rendered completely 3D universe. For an added level of replayability, gamers who enjoy tinkering around with the inner workings of the game will pleased to hear that Malfador has included a number of features making modding the game easy, in addition to a scriptable AI system.

        Some additional new features include:

        * Political alliances between multiple empires
        * A top-down ship design system
        * A hexagonal movement grid

        This is the second Malfador title signed by Strategy First this spring: in May, Strategy First signed the developer to a publication deal for StarFury (review), a game it had previously released in 2003.

        For more information on both games please visit Malfador.com or StrategyFirst.com.

          Yeah, they have screenies on the malfador.com site that look pretty sweet.

          Remember scriptable AI does not always equal good AI.

            The hexagonal grid is quite a departure for them. I'd to see that in Civ as well.

              I had a look at some screen shots, and I was fairly underwhelmed. Ship models look uninspiring. Meh. The previous games in the series haven't interested me, so I guess I am not looking forward to this game.

                Hmm, true, and the AI from the last one was scriptable too I think, we will have to wait and see.

                    And yet you responded. A free +1 troll at its finest.

                    (if you are into space games check out Space Empires IV. Better than any of the MOOs, or any other space game. )

                        Sorry.

                        You ask if anyone else is looking forward to Space Empires V.

                        I answered honestly.

                        If you only wanted to here from people who would answer yes, then in the future, please say so.

                        How is it my fault if I've never heard of this game or it's predecessors?

                        Instead of just calling me a troll, why not post some information about the game? Why not post some screenshots or some reviews or some websites?
