Im not a console user, but I do have to admit that the graphics power on the XBox360 and PS3 are above PC's abilities. However, by the time those two consoles are released, the PC will have a more powerful gfx card - which I will happily get, and boast over the pathetic console users.
oh and.. what IS nVidia's plan for the future? What is their next amazing card? is the SLI really worth it? I am looking at the GeForce6800 Ultra, but I'd rather wait for a card that is more powerful than what I see on the two console machines.be freeComment

Nvidia's coming out with the G70 sometime later this year, quite a bit faster than the 6800. That's what's in the PS3, more or less.oh and.. what IS nVidia's plan for the future? Yes, but that's not the design of the chip in the Xbox 360. The Xbox 360 uses the fabled "R500" (don't let the number fool you). It's basically a fundamentally new design. For games designed for it, it'll have much, much more efficient performance than the R520/G70. The downside is games designed for the old architecture styles (R520/G70) would run quite a bit slower on the R500.Originally posted by Sn00py

So it'll come in a couple years on the PC front still. It's there today (well, November) in the console world.
There are no "vertex" or "pixel" shaders on the R500. There are 48 tiny processors that can do either. It's more powerful, and more flexible.
