Has anybody tried Dark Throne?

I've just started playing Dark Throne. It's a free web-based MMO (RPG) that uses a web interface. The game is currently in Beta, but is still quite playable. It's great fun, and I'm hooked. I started playing it today, since the WoW servers are down (which tends to happen a lot).

Anyway, I can recommend it, if for nothing else, then as a nice pastime:

Yeah

The game is actually kinda fun. And has an easy learning-curve.

But i suspect, that once you hit the higher levels, you'll get attacked a lot more by the other players, since there are comparatively few higher level players. This is because you can only attack players within 5 levels of your own.

Yeah...there is no safe period. You log off with the risk of getting attacked. Then again, you get attack reports, so you can always revenge yourself.

This is actually getting more and more fun. I think I'm getting the hang of it now - it really isn't that hard to play, but I suspect it is hard to master

The key to not losing all your gold when off-line, is actually two things.

A) Don't have all your gold lying around. Bank it. If your gold is banked, attackers cannot pillage it, if you are defeated.

B) Since you'll make a lot of money overnight, or when at work/in school, you are in for an attack sooner or later. Therefore, you must build a strong defense. Don't think too hard about offense at the start - there are so many people playing this game, that it is not hard to find someone with around a million gold unbanked, but with no soldiers - i.e. free gold Go for defense af the start, since you will!! get attacked sooner or later.

This game, I'm slowly discovering, requires patience

Rome was not built in one day, and neither is an empire in Dark Throne. But if you recruit at a steady pace, and keep using your gold to acquire more miners, then eventually you'll have a decent army. The strategy needed to lvl up is one of slowly building your army, when still low lvl, and then once you are strong, you can start attacking. Be sure to build early, though. And don't leave your gold lying around.

what is the best turns for attacking, i kept using ten and pwning the competition?

Played it a bit, not too bad. I'm sure once I get better I'll enjoy this. Want to form a Poly Alliance?

The more turns you use, the more gold you pillage.

The official forums state that using around 5 turns will give you a nice combo of gold/xp, if you are low on turns.

No, not at all, it is much like some of the other, your territory/army/production MMO's out there.

However, there are 100,000 players on this one, so I feel a little lost in the shuffle.
