  • Neverwinter Nights - The People's Republic

Well, what else comes after a revolution?

This is a general NWN thread!

Ok, we were crying about haste boots in Folderol. It is possible to get plain haste boots with no penalties in two ways. One is dead secret and will get you Gnomish Running Shoes. The other way is to rely on a very very rare chance of the random loot script putting Boots of Speed in a chest or a monster's inventory.

Or, if are a warrior, why are you bothered about a few skill penalties anyway? You can always take the boots off to pick a lock or trade or craft or something

Which makes it even more of a shame that I cant remember for the life of me where I found them! But those old fleet foot boots were not so bad after all. I think I picked up a short sword of haste somewhere as well...

      Ooh what's the secret?

And those other boots don't just give penalties to skills IIRC.

It's Folderol, and many of us have sampled it at one point or another.

There's also the -3 AC (dodge modifier penalty). Fun to have when toe to toe with six enemies

I'd imagine it'd be even more fun if they had shooter backup. Remind me not to wear these things if I play with the bandits.

But haste gives you +4 dodge ac, So you end up +1 at the end of the day Not quite so clever if you get slowed, or you have potions of speed though

There's other items that give Haste too. Robes, weapons, potions, the spell itself.

The argument is that haste is very good, but for a warrior its very very good. I mean the extra attack at your highest attack bonus is worth giving up a lot for!

Ah well, in NWN 2, with its D&D 3.5 rules, haste is much toned down. It doesn't affect casting speed or attack speed anymore, just ac and movement speed

I don't think it does, or maybe it's cancelled out and the -3 is net. I wore them fighting a group bats in Old Gnoma and got poisoned 4 times. Previous trips in there resulted in one or two poisonings total. Could be that I was just unlucky this time, I suppose.

I haven't heard of any other items except for the flashsuit, which isn't really useful for my character. I'm rarely rely on potions for anything but healing, probably a carry over from my pen and paper days when keeping track of potions and durations was too much of a bother.

Haste is very very good, enough for me to actually ask people on the server about items that have it.

And finally, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! But I guess that is more balanced...

Warriors need it late on to even get close to the power of a mage character.

Why do stonger monsters pop up for no apparent reason (to my feeble mind that is)? Go from moderate rated piss ants and mendic ants to impossible rated Gi Ant and someother even tougher ant (I have no objection to their ratings, btw ), for example.

Oops! That was you?! I went for a quick spin down to the ant bit just a little earlier, only to find the loot picked clean. I checked my player tool, and saw someone half my level in the area, so I left rather sharpish. You may have got nobbled by some of the spawn in there that was meant for me! Sorry about that

Usually they are spawned by higher characters in the vicinity, and are still there when you arrive.

Tell you the truth, that's the biggest reason I want haste, you just plod to slowly without haste.

I was trying to see if I could make some boots that work the same way.

                            ACK!
Don't try to confuse the issue with half-truths and gorilla dust!

Aha! I almost killed one of them, but then the other came up to melee also and I was slow on my last heal potion. You cost me all of 650 exp (Which is only 9 or so non-uber ants, not a big deal )
