  • i was just surprised that untill this law was passed, sweden had no official anti-piracy legistaion(if what the article is saying is true).

Also i think people will find it hard to change their downloading habits.

Anyway one reason i think their is a move away from the PC to consoles, from many publishers, is in part due to the ease of pirating on the pc compared to a console(especialy an on-line console which is getting a big push too).

      • I'm surprised the ISPs aren't coming under more fire given the new trends. It seems likely they turn a blind eye to filesharing simply because it buoys demand for their products.

        • Why would ISPs be under fire? They are supposed to be usage agnostic. Besides, finding out what applications subsrcribers are using can easily run into privacy laws.

My reading of the article is copyright infringement on a personal level wasn't an offence.

I think they will be asked to do more in the coming years to discourage piracy. Already in the UK makers of technology that can be used both for piracy and legal use are losing the total protection the earlier case against VHS afforded them, and it seems like the logical next step to ask the ISPs to do more, without infringing data protection laws.

              You heard it here first.

That's too bad. Hollywood et al has a load of money.

That is going to be tough, in more than one sense.

To see what a subscriber is doing you need to peer into his IP packets. So an ISP is going to have to infringe on the users' privacy and such to acquire knowledge. Another thing is, do this in a round-the-clock, real time fashion requires a lot of computing power.

                • I am not expert enough to guess how it will work. It wouldn't surprise me though if it was the case in a few years time.

Well i'm glad in one way as i think this law could have just led to the big games companies becoming more of a monopoly than they already are.
So a in my book. The future of games looks better

worse than heroin(but with much more positive side effects!) in my case.

I was thinking the other day as i played a game of LMA manager2005 on my xbox, when was the last time i had a game really hand me my pride on a plate?
For example in the game i just mentioned i've taken my team from the conference to the top of the premiership+european glory - in 6years(game time), using only welsh nationality players in my first team. I have a lot of time for this game, but with no real difficulty setting it seems i probably have played it out.

So whats the last game anyone can remember being a severe challange? Are games becoming more about massaging our fragile ego's or is challange still a serious componant? I'll try and think of the last game that pawned me in the meantime........
