Not sure if with the new rule I should get to guess a word guess or not, so I am not guessing, but I can only come up with one other option. Have to wait and see who gets it I suppose.

Thank you. I had to think for a bit on it, but the SPAM just jumped out at me ...

Sparrow, I think you can guess again, as there was an update in between? But i'm not sure. Perhaps DrSpike can clarify this in the full rule set someday

There has been an update. Your letter wasn't there this time, but it would be manifestly unfair to ban you from guessing the word after the update following your guess has occured. After all, your letter could have been decisive.

That is the point of the guess word anytime rule - it overrides the rule stopping you guessing again to avoid the inequity described.

However, as discussed, the guess word anytime rule should be tightened up, but only to avoid Snoopy style shenanigans ( ), not reverse the original intention of the rule.

Crumbs, never thought Hangman could be this complicated.

My first rule changes since writing the original rules I think:

Hangman Rules, History and Standings

Rules

• 1. A maximum of 9 incorrect guesses.
• 2. Updates must be posted within 24 hours of each other, and will occur in sets of 2, except for the final 2 guesses, which will be updated individually. An update must also occur after each word guess.
• 3. Any letters guessed after the conditions for an update set out in rule 2 have been met, but before the actual update, will be ignored, and will not carry over to the next set of guesses.
• 4. You can only pick one letter for every two consecutive sets of guesses.
• 5. Guesses cannot be changed after being posted.
• 6. You can guess the word at any time, subject to the qualification in rule 7, but guessing incorrectly eliminates you from play.
• 7. If you make a letter guess you may not make a word guess before an update has occured. The converse also applies as a consequence of rule 2.
• 8. Incorrect word guesses also count as losing a life.
• 9. Words must be 5 or more letters, and cannot be plurals.
• 10. Words must be standard english, and cannot be proper nouns.

Perhaps controversially, I added in a no plurals rule. If a following vote shows that this is not wanted it can be removed.
