child of thor--> about your article

Confusing "geek speak" used by experts and media included "phishing", "rogue dialler", "Trojan" and "spyware".
how the beep are those confusing.

Trojan and Spyware- the most obvious words- you hear them once and you know what they are.

Phishing is more complicated, but still- it's been around since the 80's at least with phone phishers. ... ignorance

a relevant article? 'Geek Speak confuses users'
What's pathetic is that any one of those people could google the term and have an accurate definition within seconds (maybe a minute on 14.4 dialup, if anyone still uses such a thing?). There's no excuse for not knowing at least the basic idea of any of those terms ('trojan', 'spyware', 'phish', 'spam', 'rogue dialer', 'keylogger' were mentioned in the article among others). I don't expect everyone to be an expert - but a minimum of self-education is necessary

I always assumed 'pawned' was some kind of chess terminology. I think it is very sad that the sheep like tendencies of people can be influenced by the most mundane of circumstances.

I've just been sent a job specification, and under the fairly weird heading "Essential Soft Skills" (wtf? ), one of the entries is:

                    Owns problems and brings solutions.

Now I'm really worried that the accounts department at that company (who shall remain nameless to spare their blushes) is run by a fourteen year old kid high on Counterglue but without the nous to pick up that it should really be "Pwns problems".

@ duke o' york - sounds very dubious indeed!

@DarkCloud, well that particular article wasn't a reference to myself(heaven forbid ) - but its part of the same problem that effects many people who use the internet, but are not very computer savvy.

But yes articles like that do make we wonder how people survive on line when they don't know how to protect themselves

Just go in and shout at the manager "I pwn you and all your problems!"

                        Should do the trick.
