I know 7 people with Xbox's and none of them have Live.
That's pathetic; however, you yourself have said that you much prefer the PS2 (a suckfest for online gaming). Why should your friends be any different?
Xbox Live is the best thing that has happened to a console for a long time.
Every single person I know who has an Xbox has Xbox Live.

Yeah, I won't be doing XBox Live either. I don't care for playing games online, but no worries, since I enjoy the single player XBox games as well.
I also have an XBox and haven't even thought about getting Live.

Your not even waiting to see what Sony will have to offer? We know next to nothing about the PS3, but it does seem that, this time, it will have more horsepower than the Xbox 2. Of course, you could always buy both.
It'll have more horsepower in that the PS2 theoretically has more horsepower than the Xbox.
It's not an optimal design for game consoles, and it won't ever reach its theoretical performance. Not even close.
If it's good, I'll buy it. I'm thinking the Xbox2 will own the PS3 in performance, just because its development tools are both mature and familiar to developers, and it's a far more practical design than a Cell-based architecture is for a game console. Cell derives it's power from being massively parallel, and game development is notoriously difficult to make parallel.

Speak for yourself.
I speak for about 95% of the market, at which point a plurality becomes reasonable.

I only know one person without Xbox Live who owns an Xbox.
Maybe we just know less anti-social people.

Here is another significant issue: the Blu-Ray - HD/DVD battle.
Microsoft is, AFAIK, still sticking with having Xbox2 go with the HD-DVD format, while Sony says PS3 will, upon launch, be a Blu-Ray player.
Blu-Ray will give Sony the advantage as far as how much content could go on a single disc. I don't know how long it will take for this format competition to end and a winner to be declared; probably not before both next-gen consoles launch, but if it seems that Blu-Ray is going to be it, Xbox 2 may get hurt.
If you had read my thread, you know the one on the same exact subject, you would have read the following:
Optical Drive - As many have speculated, Xenon will not use Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. Games will come on dual-layer DVD-9 discs. While the media is the same as that of the current Xbox, the usable space on each disc is up to 7 GB. The drive is slated to run at 12X.
7 GB is more than enough room for games. I don't see the point in using Blu-Ray or HD-DVD given that most don't have HD TVs.
I don't think they'll have any problems with the Blu-Ray not working, and they'll absorb any added cost of adding the drive without hesitation if they think it will help guarantee Blu-Ray's dominance.
On top of that, Blu-Ray would probably fit the bill for the PS4 as far as storage capacity.
I don't think it will give the PS3 an advantage for games. Like I said, 7 GB is more than enough room for games. It will give the PS3 an advantage for HD movies. But it's not a big advantage, since most people don't own HD TVs anyway. Btw, Apple is on the Blu-Ray team now.
If the PS3 ships with a Blu-Ray drive, it will
1) Cost a fortune
2) Be problematic "first-gen" hardware
I think Sony will reconsider before shipping.
