  • Settlers 2

I've just grabbed Settlers 2 from the website-whose-name-we-dare-not-speak.

I didn't get very far in it the last time around. Playing from the first scenario now, except that I am not sure where I should be building what mines. Is there a way to prospect for granite, gold, and iron explicitly?

    1. we already have a settlers2 thread, but its ok to have one centering on YOUR questions

    2. You send a geologist to a flag near where you want him to look. click on the flag and you get choices to build a road, take down the flag, send a geologist, or send an explorer.

    3. I BOUGHT my copy of Settlers2 just a few weeks ago - for $5 used at EB. Its not at all impossible to find legally (although finding it in a brick and mortar store was unusual, ill admit)

Did you even look for other threads about it? I don't mean search, just look for it..!

Hint: While I post this the other thread is at the bottom of this forum
This space is empty... or is it?

Yep. I knew that I got it because of a discussion about it somewhere, thought it was at Apolyton, scanned through the active threads, couldn't find a discussion, and decided to post my question anyways.

          D'oh.

fortunately ive put the game aside, thus avoiding quandry as to whether my comments on it should go on that thread or this one

Shame. You could have posted in both.

I am on the second scenario right now. My Empire grows merrily until suddenly -- BOOM -- I stop getting new soldiers. The supply of weapons is plentiful, so what else do I need? Is there a population limit?

Disbanding existing guardposts gives some soldiers, but it also contracts my borders in unpalatable ways.

You do know you need beer, sword and a shield to create one soldier?

you only need one beer to train them, and after that no additional beer is needed for support Is THAT realistic? Actually its the classic RTS model, where you need resources to build a soldier but not to support them. Of course the need for gold to train them is very NICE touch.

But realism - heck, IIUC, you cant TRADE in this game, and you cant establish diplo relations with the other groups.

(edit yes I KNOW you were joking, i just found it a useful basis for a rif)

I forget the actual specifics of mission 2, but I take it you have got the tech to build a brewery now? If so, build one. If not, send some scouts out - although if you have run out of soldiers without bumping into the brewer guy, chances are you won't make it now either.

If supplies to the brewery are a problem, either build more wells/grain farms or adjust the sliders so that the brewery gets the largest share of both.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Just finished mission 3. Thanks for all the help

Had to actually reload from save a few times until I preemtively pulled back, deleted a few buildings, and built fortresses in place of guardposts.

                            Interesting stuff.

If you want to waste your time with Settlers, I suggest you instead get Widelands and contribute to it by... I dunno, drawing some graphics or writing a better renderer, for instance ?
