        Doom.

Starcraft and Dark Colony are two games I've enjoyed playing coop.
I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

Well.... there's diablo, and any number of RTS games, of course.

Settlers 2 can be played on LAN, I believe. Europa: The Guild could be interesting, too.

          How about Rome: Total War?

Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis would be good, too, if you have the time.

HOI2 has co-op, as does SS2 (although the latter is in FPS territory).
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

well its not exactly 100% co-op, but you could have a look at CTP2?

Even though you choose two different civs at start up, you could also let yourselves take turns in running the empire with one civ only if you decided to.

I used to play it co-op style with a friend, the games would last so long you never needed to have that final showdown

Its worth noteing that the MP/LAN game did have some bugs - and in so far as the source code project goes, they haven't all been addressed so far.

Still i did have a few weeks of fun playing it like this.

As for RPG's - i'm trying very hard to remember that famous one that had a split screen MP mode and could be co-op as well? I'll have to get back to you on that one, its an oldie...around 1992 i think?

Ah yes it was the game Bloodwych - that doggie site may have it. Its just for two players though - much fun on the amiga was had with this game.

hmm seems you could dig your spectrum out for this one http://www.mobygames.com/game/sheet/gameId,3605/

Starcraft has the advantage of both players being able to play the same team (both people giving orders to the same units) or both players being allied, with seperate bases and units but attacking common enemies rather than each other.

Everything I mentioned can be played co-operateively.... except maybe Europa the Guild.

That's another good suggestion. It's a pity no one on Bnet is willing to playing anything outisde of melee rush games with unlimited resources.

One of the great advantages of LAN gaming - you usualy know the people your playing with, so you can leave those that make MP a dirty word well alone

I am surprised no one has mentioned BG/BG2. You can play this cooperatively right?

You can, but I don't think it would be that great. It's a dailog driven game, and none of the dialog is made with multiplayer in mind.

Maybe Icewind Dale would be a better choice, since it's more of a hack'n'slash.

And there's also NWN, of course.

I'm considering NWN at the moment. Myself and my girlfriend are playing through SoU (in fact that's what prompted this thread; whilst I have her interested in games I want to make as much progress as is possible ).

However you need 2 copies to play even on a LAN, rather lamely. I think I can bypass it by disconnecting, but haven't tested it yet.

Anyone tried NWN or BG cooperatively?

NWN co-op is GREAT fun. The game is twice as badass in co-op. Erm... actually ToEE is good with two or more players on one computer, with 2 characters each or something... I was doing that with my brother, made the game about 1,000% better.

SMAC is good co-op (agree a permapact on turn 1) Icewind Dale 2 also goes well.

                              WORMS (comody option)
