  • Let us now praise famous men ......

We've had lots of threads about games. And a few about game companies. This thread is to name the INDIVIDUAL person involved in gaming who has done the most to merit praise, fame, etc. While Im thinking primarily of game designers, lets not forget coders, artists, etc, or for that matter visionary individuals at publishing houses, hard ware makers, retailers, etc. Even members of the fan community, such as prominent modders, etc (er, lets NOT discuss proprietors of famous Civ websites, please).

    Who deserves fame, and why?

Sid Meier, for obvious reasons (duh).

Brian Reynolds, for obvious reasons too (he made SMAC, the best TBS of all time).
I watched you fall. I think I pushed.

Will Wright - for appealing to the widest audience (think Sims)
Peter Molyneux - for his crazy ideas that nobody likes of late, but hey, at least he's innovative

John Carmack and John Romero - for being the craziest coders like ever

Steve Barcia: Master of Orion 1 & 2, Master of Magic. I've found his games to be accessible, yet extremely deep (but also somewhat buggy ).

Lord British, even if some of his more recent efforts have been less-than-stellar.
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

Oh, also, of course, lest we forget:

Shigeru Miyamoto - for making Mario, Donkey Kong and Legend of Zelda.

Has he done any games since MoO2?

See this link. Short answer if you don't want to follow the link: maybe Metroid Prime.

Which reminds me that Alan Emrich and Tom Hughes deserve mention for publishing several strategy guides that were actually worthy of the name.

                            Agreed. Whole-heartedly I might add.

                            And of course, Sid Meier.
