  • Well that was a waste of a shield

    Orders sent.

And Theben is right, early in the game twice we attacked Kassiopeia, once we ran into his shield, once we found his bases undefended. Both times you said we didn't attack as an alliance, but didn't clarify as to why this was except to state that our OoB had to match exactly. I (and I think Geo, Spaced and Theben) are curious as to what happened to prevent us from attacking as an alliance (though one of them may know).

Just like I said, you didn't send exactly matching OoB. Some tactical options weren't the same both times.

You must understand that the GM can only process the orders as he receives them, not make assumptions. So after your first unsuccessful attempt, I warned you about agreeing the order of battle.

This doesn't mean you attacked separately. You were still allied, but had the battle occurred your allied order of battle would have been slightly different from what some of you had hoped.

      • Interesting to see everyone's take.

For what it's worth Theben I wouldn't have double-crossed had you (instead of being silent) proposed a plan to give us both chances to win that reasonably reflected the situation as it was. For example if chances are far from 50/50 between the 2 allies then expecting a 50/50 chance or something close post allied attack clearly isn't reasonable.

Same with Sparrow. I wouldn't attack him whilst agreeing not to, but I was willing in the circumstances (no discussion allowed) to accidentally take half the captured bases.

I guess I expect double-crossing in this game more than others. Especially since there can be but one winner.

          I'll know better next time.

/me waits patiently for either DrSpike to send in his orders, or for Ljube to update as promised

                • Um 24 hour turns? Looks like Ljube time just got compressed.

I am checking 'Poly intermittently at the moment and I must insist on the earlier agreed time limit. Bad GMing, even if nothing happened.

                    • That was 33 hours. IMHO when it's just two people and the fate of the game is hanging in the balance, you *could* wait. But I'm not questioning Ljube's decision, since it *was* 33 hours.

                      • Yes it's a poor choice, especially around Christmas when some people are busy with festivities.

I'll attempt 24 hours, but it may not always be possible. If that's the way the game ends, so be it, but I disagree, and would indeed disagree were Sparrow to lose that way.

                        • Perhaps you and Sparrow should just get it over with: both fleets move to attack, meet in the middle, FTTD, winner takes all.

It's precisely because of Christmas Doc. The game's been dragging out for 3 months now and it's time for a new one lest it suffer the fate of Gladiator.

And with only two players left, there is no point in having longer than 24-hours turns (no alliances to negotiate).

                              • We have got to find a solution to the end-game tedium when only 2 players are left and no battle occurs for many turns.

Any suggestions from the expert, regular and novice players would be welcome.
