A game has to be Big Rigs: over the road racing standard to get a really bad mark.

And, as per my earlier point, IGN has given it a 9.5: http://cube.ign.com/articles/565/565...html?fromint=1

That's no surprise at all, given how much of a blatant fanboy Matt is. He's the one that posted the "75 reasons you'll love Metroid Prime 2!" last week.

Look at the scores he gives Mario Tennis and Super Mario Sunshine...

          Gamespot gave it a 91%

The problem with MP2 is it's nothing more than an expansion pack to the original MP.

Halo2 and GTA:SA were huge improvements over the predecessors, and MP2 is a complete rehash. They even took out the coolest weapons from the original MP.

The Gamespot review said it best: If you've played MP, you've played MP2.

I don't know how they could give it 91% with that sentiment.

Maybe because they really like the game?

                Either way, they're crazy.

I found MP to be one of the most overrated games in recent memory. Running back and forth and backtracking while wrestling with an annoying, frustrating console scheme does not make for a fun game with me.

That last paragraph is almost exactly my opinion of both Metroid Prime and Halo, to be honest.

But Asher, what did either of those 2 games really do to improve the genre? Did they have any great new innovations in gameplay? Did they feature amazing storytelling? Not really. They too are just extensions of their originals with some extra bells and whistles thrown on top. And, amazingly, they scored high because people still like them. Prime 2 fits right in with that scheme.

Halo is all about the multiplayer.

The single player is more involved, since it doesn't have the stupid "lock on" and horrible control scheme.

No, there's a difference. Prime 2 is identical to Prime 1 in every aspect, except for the stupid and useless multiplayer they tacked on with, what, 4 levels?

GTA:SA has huge improvements over its predecessors: RPG elements in the characters, huge, large number of cities, etc.

Halo 2 as well: the mix-n-match dual wielding, the enhanced AI, the better graphics, playing from both the Human and Convenant POV, but most importantly is the online aspect. No other game has done anything like Halo 2 has online, ever.

The real bellweather of a sequel is if you feel like you can't play the original any more because it's so much better. This is mentioned in many of the GTA:SA and Halo 2 reviews, the improvements are so good that the predecessors almost become unplayable.

In the Metroid Prime 2 reviews I've read, most people even prefer the original Metroid Prime (such as even Matt, from IGN).

Yeah, whether SP or MP using console controls is like golfing with plastic clubs. :stir:
