    how?

Even with that potion, I struggle against it. If I can't get enough hits in, he'll eventually wear down all my extra hitpoints.
The cold resistance amulet is enough with a strong build.

Of course, when it's done. By first part, I meant about the first six areas. There are about 7 more parts to complete until chapter 1 is finished.

As for SoU, I like it better than Hordes, personally. It has better atmosphere. The areas in SoU are beautifully designed.

      • HotU has more varied and interesting gameplay. Bigger fights too. However it is too easy with a good char, and the xp is a bit out of whack.

        • Well Ive just demolished SoU. not too bad really, I plan on giving it another run through to see if I can make enough money to buy those boots of haste at ao town.

I stuck with the orc sorceror hench all the way through but kept telling him to take only sorc levels. Very potent towards the end when he would haste himelf and dump all his fireballs into the fight. not so useful when the enemies were obviously fire resistant, but he's just a bit dumb like that. He could stoneskin me as well which made all the big fights a doddle.

          • where are the boots of speed? I hope I didn't miss them, I haven't been paying close attention to their inventories. They mostly had crap I didn't care about.

I defeated that giant in chapter 1. I waited till I was level 7, he turned out to be easy when at that level.

I still used the special items for the dragon. I didn't have that amulet of cold resistance (I took the saphire instead for some reason).

I like HOTU a little more. But only because you have higher level spells, and more variety in the strategies you can use for fights. I don't mind the uber levels you get because some of those fights are damn hard. Grimgnaw anyone?

                • I'm there right now, cool.

As a Paladin I had to fight that one undead monk guy. I don't think regular characters can get into that section of the dugeon (but I can't remember for sure). That was one tough fight. Luckily I had a potion of speed, that was enough to get me through. And I got my holy avenger.

                  • I finally got NWN platinum. However, my copy didn't come on a DVD, but on four cd's. Lets hope there's no cd swapping in store for me, or I'll be super pissed.

                    • I had to swap the CDs when installing, but so far every time I've played I've only needed the single HOTU CD in my drive.

                        • I just dug out my HotU cd. I thought the reason I didnt have access to new spells like bless weapon was because I was playing the SoU campaign. Turns out I forgot to install HotU at all! That would have made life a little easier, bless weapon seems to stack with my holy avenger as well...?

You can just about get enough from the stinger caves and kel garas dungeon. If you weren't too spendthrift early on its even easier.

He was easy for me, though I did abuse the upgrading smith (Enserric as a greatsword, with haste, and tonnes of upgrades), with Deekin as ueber buffer. Hardest fight in HotU was the Maker, which took a couple of reloads.

Nothing in HotU was as hard as J'nah was in SoU. I think they should have made the HotU boss fights slightly harder.

                              • It depends on the build you use, like always. A very one-sided build (i.e. sneak based) will simply curl iup and die vs the Dracolich, for example.
