Don't get me wrong, I love Xbox Live, but their tech support department is full of idiots.
Case 1
I had used one of the billion 2 month free coupons I had to create a second account so we could have more people online at a time. The new account was in my name, but on my buddy's xbox. Well, he took it home so when it came time to cancel the account before billing, I had to call instead of doing it on the Xbox. Here's how it went.
Me - I want to cancel my account.
Dude - Are you sure?
Me - Yes, I already have another one that is paid for, I just want to cancel the temp one.
Dude - Do it on the Xbox.
Me - It's my friends Xbox, I don't have access to it right now.
Dude - Xbox live has these great features... are you sure you don't want to continue service?
Me - I have an account already, I need to cancel the temp one.
Dude - When will you have access to that other Xbox.
Me (a little angry now) - I don't care what you want to sell me, I'm not buying. Cancel the damn thing.
Dude - Oh.... ok sorry. I'll do it.
That was mildly annoying, but nothing compared to the call this morning.
Case 2
I'm currently doing a Rallisport Challenge 2 XSN competition. The competition has several of the absolute fastest racers in the world (including me
, #1 on Hillclimb). When I tried to race this morning, I could not log in with my account, though I could log in with my friend's account. So I called support.
The first guy told me to run the network troubleshooter, which I already did and it was connected. Then he told me that my credit card info was out of date, which it wasn't. He showed an expiration date of 12/03 on my card, even though it expires on 12/05. Here's the deal though... that date doesn't affect anything. If it did, I wouldn't have been able to log in since '03. He told me I needed to update the expiration date on my Xbox in order to be able to log in.... BUT in order to update that information I have to be logged in.
This was just too much for the tech to handle. He kept repeating that I needed to log in and update that information... Well I can't friggin' log in stupid. That's the problem. He told me to do an account recovery, which I had already done. That doesn't accomplish anything either, the account info was there already. I just can't log in. So the tech, completely dumbfounded, because he is a moron, transfered me... not to someone higher up, but just to another tech who started telling me to do the exact same thing.
The actual problem was that one of their servers had temporarily gone down, but everyone over there was too stupid to check for that. I had been just trying to log in over and over while I was listening to those idiots tell me to do things that weren't related to the problem, and I eventually got in because the server came back on.
The dude tried to keep me on the phone to give me a reference number, but I hung up on him.
In conclusion...
I like Xbox Live, but damn they need to hire some smarter techs.
