anyone know if any of those star trek games are any good? I've always wanted to play one, but I'm afraid they all suck. Surely there must be one or two decent ones aren't there?

for me to like it, it would have to be similar to the RPG, or TBS style formats. Do any of them fit this bill?

Oh yeah, we have that one too. I dont usually think of it as a game, but as educational software, but i suppose it IS a game after all.

here in the USA a store, usually run by a charity, where you can give away your old stuff. This either warms your heart, or gives you a tax deduction for charitable giving, or both. The store then sells the stuff either to poor people, thus helping the poor, or to bargain hunters like Father B. The proceeds go to help either the poor or, occasionally, some other charity. The store is normally run by volunteers.

They can be decent places to buy old clothes - i have bought haloween costumes there. They sell old lamps and stuff as well - i wouldnt trust that stuff. They also sometimes have old books or old CD's - music, and occasionally a game or other software. I have NEVER found a decent game, and quickly judged it wasnt worth looking there. Evidently some have had better luck, and have looked alot harder.

Is sim earth any good? I remember seeing it run many years ago, and found it as part of a compilation in a shop for a tenner recently (compiled with sim farm and sim ant or something like that)
Sim Earth's good for about a few weeks of entertainment. It's good but it's old.

where does he live? Australia? I thought that's where he lived.

Where I live we have thrift stores that are run by catholic charities. But we also have thrift stores that are commercially run. And we also have 99 cent stores. They usually just sell junky items, not used items.

I would like to find a place that will by my old used games. Anybody know of any place? I know Electronics boutique sells used games, how much do they buy them for? I would like to get some money out of these games I wasted money on and hardly played (Black and White for example).

Ive never sold to EB, but ive bought. I think it depends on the local manager, what his shelf space situation is, etc. If he doesnt have much space to spare, i dont suppose he'll pay much for used games. If he has the room, and knows theres a market locally for the used games, he might pay more. This local EB manager had apparently bought a couple of big collections. THats where I found PST, MS FS98, and a couple of my other recent acquisitions. Im not sure how good an idea it was for the store though, it seemed like most of that used inventory just sat there. I hope I helped though. Ive since moved, and have been busy with PST anyway, so I havent been back.

Of course you could also try online at Ebay. Ive never done that, i wonder if anyone else here as experience with it.

BUT - its a DOS game, with a fairly non-intuitive interface (from what I remember) and the manual is almost entirely devoted to explaining how the earth really works, rather than to discussing how the game interface works. I found it intensely frustrating - the kind of game i always think im going to go back to, and never really want to go back to.
I remember one time frogs were the one who evolved into an intelligent lifeform. I do agree with LOTM's description of the game and its manual. It's an interesting way to kill some time although.

Sim Earth isn't very good IMO. If you really want to try it get a SNES emulator and the Sim Earth rom.
