Just finished the Russia United scenario. While I was waiting for Latvia and Estonia to be fully annexed and waiting on battles in Lithuania I decided the Afghan and Mongolian women were lonely, so I sent a few tens of thousands of Russian soldiers to keep them warm. I signed an alliance with Ukraine as a diplomatic decoy; was the last country to conquer and won me the scenario. Used them to get to Moldova. Interestingly, China proposed (and I eagerly accepted) an alliance. Also, Slovakia got ballsy by initiating a terrorist attack against me. They're happy Neo-Soviet citizens now.
A few quirks in the demo that I hope won't (probably will) translate into the full game, but I must have this game. I may be willing to shell out the $40 for it, but hopefully someone will offer a good deal soon after release like Circuit City did for TT3 (aka Chris Sawyer's: Locomotion). The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

I tried the demo last week. Not exactly good, but not totally bad either. Here is what I wrote in a frustrateede moment some days ago( right after last time I played, but I might have missed good starategies, I played without any help. Tips is welcome):
I played the game today. It was bad. For example, I read in the tips section that I should get good relations with the big guys before I DoW. I couldn't find out how to see how good relations I had in an easy way(and many other things I'd like to know), and decided to DoW anyway. It worked fine. Next victim: DoW by the US. The next months, DoW from the king, his lawyer and his grandpa.
New game. I find out how to see how good relations I have. Sort of. It never changes. It's good though(with the US, I decided that was most important). I make some deals to make friends, but see no improvement; I have good relations with all it seems. I DoW my first country. The US, his dog and it's meat bone DoW me.
Exit. Good bye.
Do not fear, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.-Isaiah 41:10
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made - Psalms 139.14a

I went again today and easily got Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Moldova, Slovakia, Romania, Afghanistan, and Mongolia. I had planned to go after the rest of the Balkan states, but when I went after Austria to start...
Who knew Namibia and Botswana (among 2 dozen others) cared enough to send troops? The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

For some reason, now I can't invade without drawing the wrath of other nations, the US and UK in particular. I do not enjoy seeing my Russian forces getting hammered by the capitalist pig-dogs. Doing it one-at-a-time, I get Estonia with nary a sound but moving on to Latvia and suddenly people care ... in the form of troops.
Lots of them.
Damn I wish nukes weren't disabled in the demo. The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

As far as buildups, I'm still getting a feeling for the different enabled areas of the demo. Seems I'll have to move on to the military screens now. I tried to build 30 mil infantry, but it said it would take over 100,000 days to complete. The only reason I attempted to conscript so many is someone on the forums said they had built a large military with ease. I'll have to look into the economic portion as well as I'm sure increased capacity and efficiency comes into play...The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Now that I think about it, one thing I noticed is that no one dared attack on MY soil; the only battles occured when my divisions were on foreign soil.
Hmm, I'm gonna try something...The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.

Here's what I just tried:
If you keep Moscow protected, enemy divisions seem to not be willing to enter Russian territory except to pass through. Wait until you've fully annexed a country before moving on, otherwise all it takes is a single enemy occupying a single province to muck up an annexation-in-progress. Except for the ones defending Moscow, combine all of your forces (sans navies) and attack a single enemy division in a chosen country; let their forces come to you to be wiped out. They may send forces into Russian provinces just to be annoying (Afghanistan likes to do this; even has the suicidal tendancy of going after Moscow itself), but since you waited until they were fully annexed before moving again you just need to reoccupy the given province briefly after your current enemy's forces are gone and no longer a threat. For this demo, this looks like a good strategy short of building additional units and before the world gets pissed off at you. I managed to take Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, skipped Moldova to avoid completing the scenario, Afghanistan, and Mongolia without outside interference. It wasn't until I moved against Tehran that the counter-offensive began and only inside Iran against my large division there. The cake is NOT a lie. It's so delicious and moist.
