This guy has gotten votes!? He's the poster who ratted out Apolyton to Newsmax! Hall of fame? Hall of shame!
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.
Cap: What was that? I don't think I've heard of it yet.

Eeh, it was awhile ago, and in the long run it worked out well as 1) we got a couple of intelligent posters (albeit very conservative) out of it and 2) Newmax looked to our moderators initially when they decided to moderate their very chaotic forums (eventually to delete them).

It's been a few years back now (2000?) and I don't visit OT anymore. but one time there was a thread in OT roughly called "If you think Apolyton is a bit kooky then...". I can't recall who started the thread again although i have a faint notion of a famous wizard NES character.
In the thread you would find a link to the forums of Newsmax. The thread starter noted it was one of the more bizarre discussion sites he found. Imagine an OT forum like Apolyton with political/local subjects plus a bizarre collection of posters (freepers?): liberals, pinko commies, immigrants, blacks, jews, catholics, canadians (after they finished slagging off the canadian army because you could a large part of it on one transport ship -In the end the only canadian poster who had actually ventured into the discussion finally left with the ominous line that he hoped none of the posters would ever come into a position of power-*)...In short they don't like anyone who thinks differently.
Back to the thread. Well, some Apolytoners ventured to Newsmax and decided to have some fun and enter in some serious debate or simply tried yanking some chains. You don't know this but until then the only rightwinger we had on OT was joe and that joker had dropped off long ago. The replies there and the discussion on the Poly thread itself were good for a laugh, even Ming dropped by but did warn that the thread shouldn't be used as a staging area. Eventually the thread would have petered out like most ones but it was a funny one.
However, suddenly Black Dragon shows up in one of Newsmax threads and tells the new posters are all coming from a site called Apolyton and gives the full details. The Newsmaxers don't seem to like anyone from Poly but one does posts (in jest) that Black dragon has earned his "20 pieces of silver" .
Afterwards it becomes a bit hazy and I can't seem to find the original thread. Some post in the thread about Black Dragon why the "hell" he had to tell the Newsmaxers about Apolyton. BD replying that it was only fair etc...
I don't know how the thread and the discussions on newsmax would have ended. Maybe it would have fizzled out, maybe the Newsmaxers would have found out themselves. The point is, at the time BD walked into the Newsmax forums, stated that Apolyton was responsible and left. I did make a mental note and later also noted the changed his login name.
I don't know what BD has been doing on OT in the meantime. Maybe's he's really a swell poster over there now. The fact remains: he ratted out Apolyton at the time.

Yeah, eventually they (the other part of Newsmax) all moved to LGF or Free Republic and the end result was that the Apolyton OT wasn't as funny as it used to be.
Btw, how's it going in OT? Does Alexander's Horse still drop by?

Both Shi Huangdi (which, if memory serves, means Black Dragon in Chinese) and Al Horsie drop by there often enough. More often than I do, actually; I'm more of a OGer nowdays.
And have you forgotten History049/Bob Dornan, maestrobto, Michael Jesenka, Albert Speer, EvC/Thorn? Are very conservative posters.
The '20 pieces of silver' character was Lazarus (not the Gimp, just Lazarus).

I would think that Lincoln more than justifies the migration... and I think Rand Al'Tor came from there as well- do you just have something against Republicans, methinks?
Personally I hated newsmax, though. They're a bunch of genocidal idiots.

No, Rand Al'Tor was from here, but wandered over there after the incident for reasons known only to him.

Yup, he does, can't get rid of him it seems.
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

Those are your words, not mine...I see it more as a mindshift in the group as a whole and the tone of debate.

I wouldn't speak in past tense. I just checked, the site is very much alive (a lot of ads though).
