Unfortunately there have been a few attempts that have not quite lived up the the original's reputation. Alas.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

X-COM is hard to play now that I've experienced tactical games that actually use physics in the game world and have stream-lined and intuitive controls.

Or simplified significantly.
Apocalypse did a good effort to make the strategic component much more interesting, but alas was too ambitious and were told to scrap all but the essentials.
The latest game "in the spirit of XCom" didn't even include base management.I'm building a wagon! On some other part of the internets, obviously (but not that other site).

And so it will remain, with out dated graphics, out dated physics engine, out dated UI, out dated operating system requirements, out dated time of release( ) - the King of its genre

Instead, never give them a weapon again, and have them move out with a soldier group. Specifically, have them move first so they receive the reaction fire when running in to an alien. You can even use the poor guy to draw fire intentionally if you need your armed soldiers to move in closer (e.g. to stun that Sectoid Leader that has lots of TUs stored for reaction fire).
If they do get mind-controlled again, they'll be useless to the aliens; the AI is not smart enough to use the same scouting tactic, though it might happen randomly.

yep the 'weaker' xcom opperatives become part of my un-armed section. They can either become medics or back up stunrod personel. This way they never cause me big problems when they go all mushy on me. Still when you can get turned into the nastier aliens its best to get rid of them or leave them behind for difficult missions.'The very basis of the liberal idea – the belief of individual freedom is what causes the chaos' - William Kristol, son of the founder of neo-conservitivism, talking about neo-con ideology and its agenda for you.info here. prove me wrong.

Copyrights last a long time...
However, some companies decide to release games that don't make money anymore for free download.(\__/) 07/07/1937 - Never forget

ah but its such a great game - if it was re-released as a budget title no-one would have any problems then.
Grrrr
for me i've been bad - but i have bought this game twice(pc+amiga),and would again, so i dont feel too guilty.
even on my P166 i need to use something like 'Turbo' to get the game clock/time speed running at the right rate. On my setup i need to set it to run my pc at about 50% speed.
Wonder how Tuberski is going with it? Anyway i'm now back in the Xcom gameLast edited by child of Thor; September 28, 2004, 07:50.'The very basis of the liberal idea – the belief of individual freedom is what causes the chaos' - William Kristol, son of the founder of neo-conservitivism, talking about neo-con ideology and its agenda for you.info here. prove me wrong.
