Well, I don't know. There are a significant number of people who liked Tactics: Advanced.
See, that's just it; I enjoyed FFT:A, but only when I thought of it as a game on its own. But, any time I compared it to the original, it just couldn't hold up. So, in that sense, it succeeds as a game, but doesn't cut it as a sequel...
I make movies. Come check 'em out.

Well, a lot of people say it has far better combat than the other FF games.

The thing you have to consider is the difference. The original UFO: Enemy Unkown is utterly brilliant while Pool of Radiance is just a ho-hum D&D game.

TFTD is utter crap. It's just the original with different bit map images, ludicrously tough opponents that make Gozilla looks like a wimp, and lots of bugs.

At least there were some thoughts went into Apocalypse. I agree it's stupid to shrink everything down to a city. Adding realtime combat is a dumb idea. And the interface kinda sucks.

Overall, it's a step up from TFTD.

A lot of people say no though.

I loved Apocalypse and don't like that it isn't working on XP though

              These were games?
              Unfortunantly...though Interceptor wasn't too bad.

Apocalype was a great game. Not as great as the original, but not that far away. TFTD was easily the worst.

Pool of Radiance was a classic! Just as good as UFO: Enemy Unknown, if not better. Ok, some of the later Gold Box games were superior in terms of graphics, interface and story, but the original PoR was the one that broke the ground. And PoR2 was MUCH worse than UFO: TftD. MUCH WORSE!

How classic could a CRPG based on AD&D could be?

In absolute terms, perhaps. However, since UFO is the game that created a whole new genre, it is almost infinitely superior to PoR.

Hence, in relative terms, TftD sucks worse.

Its just the addition of a planning/building stage to Laser Squad. PoR did much more in trying to bring the AD&D rules onto a computer for the first time.

ffta was ok but i basically gave up on it after i managed to get fairly high level as it was very easy and the battles took forever. in a way i like how they did the freeformish aspect but it was too random.

my personal worst sequel would have to be... any final fantasy after 3(6 in japan right?). i just hate those games now. maybe i've changed, not the games, but i can't play them for even 5 minutes without becoming totally bored.
