My laptop has a short in it (I think). It's screen looks all weirdish and crazy colors and things. Though when I press down hard near the area below the screen on the keyboard part, it works sometimes. It works if I hook it up to another monitor too. Any way I can fix it myself?

Hmmm...I thought I was posting in the OT. Oh well, Asher posts here too and he'd be the only one who could probably help.

What kind of laptop is it? My dad has had similar problems with his laptops; it happened twice on his Gateway and once on his new Compaq Presario.

All three times the problem was that the wiring between the base of the laptop and the screen had been damaged and/or developed a short, and he had to send the laptop back to the manufacturer to get a replacement LCD screen/top. Luckily, the warranty hadn't expired yet...

It's a Dell. I'm pretty sure the warranty hasn't expired. I want to be able to fix it myself though.

laptops you usually can't fix yourself. just send it back to dell and let them do it.

            That takes time though.

Yeah, but the other option is try to fix it yourself, void the warranty and maybe break it. Send it back to Dell.

Yeah, but I can't get it back in time before I leave for VA, and when I'm there I'll be too busy and I'll need it too soon.
