Right. The first official review is out already.

The game supports no videocard under Geforce 4 MX. I'm glad I got a new card recently! PC Gamer says that a 2GHz machine with 512MB RAM and GeForce 5700 was able to run the game pretty well on 1024.

The most sensible thing will probably be to play under 800x600, in which case it won't be bad.

Well, anyway, the beta worked at 20+ FPS for me all the time, which is fine, and given that it was optimized for ATI cards...

i heard it is very short. i'll still end up getting it though because of multiplayer and it'll probably have tons of great mods and free user made single player maps of similar quality to id's.

23 hours on medium setting.... in the first review. And apparently you can't just run through it.

I don't care, though. Doom has always been so brilliant in single player that you can replay those levels times upon times.

PC Gamer. They got an exclusive copy of Doom3 for review, and it was published yesterday. I don't recall now where I saw the full text of it, though I could find it, but I have scans of the pages of the magazine, too.

The interesting thing is, they say Doom3 is built in such a way that it will look even better on next-generation hardware. So, once you play that in two years time on a machine that's 3.4 GHz with 2GB RAM and a next-generation GeForce, it will look even better. I will personally be able to run it at high settings fairly well.

Don't worry, I'm not going to become the next Deity to rival you .

There's a bit of a server problem recently that results in me double-posting almost every time I try.

                    Low-End:
                    1.5GhzP4 or equivalent
                    512MB Ram
                    Geforce4 Ti 4800 or Radeon 9500

                    Mid-Range:
                    2.4GhzP4 or equivalent
                    1GB RAM
                    Geforce5950 or Radeon 9800 Pro/XT

High_End: Aka Hardware that doesn't exist, but best guess anyway
                    3.4GhzP4 or AMD equivalent
                    2GB RAM
GeForce 6800 Ultra or Radeon X800 XT PE.

Those are not the official requirements, that's opinion of PC Gamer.

In reality, a 1.3 CPU with 384 MB RAM will run the game. It's just that a say 1.8 CPU with 512 RAM will do so better.

I'm eager to see how they managed to build the game so that it will look even better on future hardware.

At least, well, something to look forward when I upgrade to a 3.6 GHz machine.

How an 9800XT can be called medium range is beyond me, that's the best card out there out there at the moment, that's at least somewhat affordable.

no seriously. what's so great about doom? I played Doom2, it was okay. But I didn't see the point. I just cheated to get to the end. .

                            You are a heathen, then.

I'm glad to see that there are at least some people here like Provost Harrison, a TRUE Doom vet.

this will probably make my Radeon 8500 cry...

and water'd heaven with their tears,
