No, you would be eliminated from the game until the end of the current round. Just word guessing wouldn't count as losing life. That would reduce the number of unguessed words.

I think the ratio of unguessed to guessed words is fine. Your suggestion would never work, since people could just guess words all the time at no hanging risk.
