    The combat rules are flawed.

There is no way I could have defended my cities if both Spaced and I had committed entire production to the military.

Hmm, both of you had 2 cities, tech 1, and 10 gold to spend. There are two possible all out attack configurations:
10 armies, Tech 1. to which the defense is 6 armies, Tech 2.
        ((10 / 2) - (6 / 2)) * (1 / 2), attacker gains 1 city.
        (6 / 1), attacker takes 6 casualties.
        (6 / 2) * 1, defender takes 3 casualties.

2nd configuration, also the one used. Use the same defense of 6 armies at tech 2.
        ((6 / 2) - (6 / 2)) * (2 / 2), attacker gains nothing.
        (6 / 2), attacker takes 3 casualties.
        (6 / 2) * 0, defender takes no casualties.

The key is not putting all money to military, but to put some to technology.

Today something very strange happened, a foreigner came from the lands to the west. She said she was the daughter of some Ljube Lvecsomething something. I will give her a room in the palce for the night, she says she has something important to tell me but is extremely exhausted. I have to say, she does have alot of foreign beauty...

Look Smiley, I'm not a sore loser. But a casual glance at the rules of combat reveals that no matter what I do, he can take at least one of my cities if he chooses.

My only possible and reasonable response could have been to take his cities in turn, which had also been indefensible.

Instead of doing that, I decided to propose a cease-fire and a trade alliance, which seemed most reasonable solution in the long run. I still don't know why he attacked me. This isn't a game in which luck factor decides, so he would have been better off with a trade partner and a loyal ally, rather than being alone against a coalition of everybody else.

Hmm, gonna have to think about how we can rework the war rules. Though it is quite true that Spaced now has a huge lead. Maybe conquered cities shouldn't contribute gold the first turn after conquest?

                      (Turn #3)

The Golden Age of Antiquity. Science flourished in many nations.

Basileus Jamski I joined the rest of the world with the discovery of Iron Working.

DarkCloud of Iguana Fire unlocked the secrets of Monarchy and Philosophy.

The bold scientists of the Spaced Dudes went further, discovering Monarchy, Philosophy, and Trade.

Gameis was content with his science, and took the time to settle the continent with the new cities of Trianprismia (B3) and Hexagonia (A3).

                          LL,

I never said that I wouldn't attack you, but to the rules are somewhat flawed, I agree.

I suspect that we might have to:
                          1. Do random placement of the start cities such that they are all at least three squares apart.
                          2. Make a rule that attacking is not allowed until turn 5.
                          3. Make a rule that war must be declared before attacking (I like this one best) AKA no sneak attacks.
We're sorry, the voices in my head are not available at this time. Please try back again soon.

                            Nis (G5)

Hmm, right now Spaced outproduces the world. I feel the following causes are the biggest factors leading to this:

                            1) Processing initial placement and first turn simultaneously, resulting in Ljube and Spaced as neighbors at the end of Turn 1.

                            2) Flaws in war formulas. Perhaps armies should have limited range?

                            3) Conquered cities being equally valuable as those built by player. This one is particularly unbalancing.

At this point I propose a couple of options:

                            1) Declare Spaced winner and restart game with revised rules.

                            2) Change rules so that Spaced doesn't recieve income for conquered cities until this turn (puts his previous turn's income at 20 instead of 50) and re-run last turn.

                            3) Play on without any modifications.

Let me know what you guys think.

On city settlement, yes, first come first settle.

Spaced, to the "war must be declared" rule. But rather than rule out all sneak attacks, make them less effective (strange) or more expensive (makes more sense).

War must be declared is a very good rule, but it should depend on the government I guess.

I want to see this game continuing and Spaced nuking the rest back into the stone age.
