Yes, though do you think someone will be able to win the wonder race with just 1 gold?

Cities need to touch. This is to prevent early rushes, as it's no fun to find yourself out on Turn 2.

Yes, the Tower is cheap, though do you think someone will be able to win the wonder race with just 1 gold?

Well, I still think that its bonuses should expire. It gives FAR too much gold for the winner.

Its relative value diminishes over time. By Tech 3, a Caravan makes almost as much. By Tech 9, a city ruled by a Republic will generate more.

Each of the Wonders are designed to do something spectacular. We'll see how it goes though. If it's clearly unbalancing, we'll hold a mid-game conference a la Galactic Overlord.

I agree, it is really hard to check balance until you play the game a bit.

A question Smiley. Can I discover a tech and build a Wonder that requires that tech in the same turn?

No, you got to start the turn with the necessary tech, a la Galactic Overlord's bases and Titans.

In the beginning, the Earth was without form... Well, actually, it had a form, it was a square, much like a chessboard. But the great game to be played was not chess, it was the creation of societies.

Five leaders, leading five tribes, discovered the secrets of Masonry and settled the world. They were as follows.

Darkcloud, the first Emperor of the Holy Empire of Iguana Fire. The captial of Igualica was founded in the foothills of the mountains at the very far southeast. (H8)

Gameis, ruler of Cubium in the northern plains, declared the founding of the Cubium Empire in the new city of Pyramedes. (D3)

Basileus Jamski I of the Byzantines located himself far away in the upper northwest and built his capital at another corner of the earth. (A1)

Ljube, leader of the Serbs, founded Belgrade in the eastern lands. (F4)

Spaced Cowboy's Spaced Dudes settled nearby, just to the north in a place they called Ponytown. (F2)

Here's a map to drool over while I write up the first turn's results.

The Myths of the Great Tower

The first myth, as told by Gameis.

The great lands of Cubium were carved by our benevolent and immortal leader, Gameis. He led his people to create the great city of Pyramedes. Seeing how happy this made his people and how much it motivated them he decided to make more cities, with the motivation from the first it would be easy to have the people construct more. But, before this could happen Gameis told his people, "Before we construct more cities, we must first show an example of this one's supreme greatness! We will construct a GREAT tower, The Tower, of Babel! I have ordered 1/3 of the cities gold to this project." "As for the other 2/3 of the treasury, there is this strange concept I have named "science". This will boost our treasuries and open great new possibilities." With that, the speech ended and all was good.

The second myth, as told by Smiley, God of Architecture

Gameis' citizens toiled day and night, carrying ten hundred thousand thousand bricks up from the plains to the hilltop. The tower rose layer by layer until the tops were in the clouds. The emperor reviewed the work, and was greatly pleased, lavishing more of his great mountains of gold to decorate the mighty tower.
Finally, the last brick, a great one of solid gold, was hoisted in place at the pinnacle. Led by the architect and a high priest, Gameis ascended the tower and stood atop it at the horizon.
Above the clouds, he could see to the ends of the Earth. Surveying distant mountains and plains, a glint of light caught his attention. Up in the northwest, silhouetted in the setting sun, rose another tower. Gameis turned to his architect and demanded what it was. She replied she had no knowledge of its origin, but could see it was at least three times higher. Furious, Emperor Gameis commanded the priest to tell him more.
The priest closed his eyes and thought for a while, and thought. Then, as the sun went down, he opened them ever so slightly. Looking out at the distant tower, he saw signals. It was the tower of Basileus Jamski's Byzantines.

The third myth, engraved at the foot of the Tower of Pyramedes

The disappointed descended the tower that night, carried by the priest who was barely able to keep him from hurling himself off. Just when he thought his empire was ruined, a soot-faced worker ran to him, waving a piece of silverish metal. They had discovered Ironworking. And all was good.

                                -------------------------

Elsewhere in the world, Spaced Dude settlers building Boot City (F3) discovered the Serbs. The Serbs had just moved west to build Novi Sad (G4).

As mentioned before, Jamski built the Tower of Babel for six gold. DarkCloud built Centralis in G8.

Here's the map, the stats page to come out in a little bit.
