The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man. --G.B.Shaw

Well I still can't beat the rock people in that freaking mine!“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

The rock mine was frustrating though in that there was only one solution and that was to go in fighting. Most of the other areas/problems allowed different approaches. The bridge guards are a great example of that but if you're a combat light character then the mines are difficult.
and my order...
BG1 - the first and possibly the weakest interface
BG2 - story follows on
Arcanum - break from D+D
IWD - very combat focused
planescape - different from the rest
SOulbringer - comes ina doublepack with planescape and played by at least 3 whole people on this forum!
IWD2
KOTR
NWN
Morrowind -big and slow and depending on your PC you might have upgraded enough to play it with 'everything on'.

if I recall correctly they can easily be killed with explosives
Hmmm... interesting. I may have to try that again then .

That was my problem. I played the game as a dialogue ace who wasn't that great of a fighter.“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

I know that the whole Morrowind system is ripe for abuse, but its openness is great. Arcanum provides schools of magic with a progression that makes sense, while D-D lets you learn fireball when you never learnt burning hands or any other fire spell. Plus who would not learn fireball in D-D at level 3? There are far too many useless spells and overpowered spells in D-D, and a clear lack of consistency in a spell user progression with these rules. The system is both more rigid than Morrowind and worse in terms of specialisation than Arcanum.Clash of Civilization team member

And of course, if you want a pyromaniac wizard and feel that he should focus solely on fire magic.... then do that.

I think that this is mostly due to limitations on the PC, since many of the spells are specialized and can only be put to their full effect with a flexible GM.Rethink Refuse Reduce Reuse

No other game among those listed has something like this. BG is very linear imho. Also, I think the D-D system is the worst role playing system ever made (it was the first, all others improved on it). The magic and skills systems in Arcanum or, even better, Morrowind are way better.

Morrowind sytem sucks if you want to have a balanced system, but in terms of role playing, rewarding people for doing things rather than killing monsters, then it's great, as it lets you improve skills you're actually using.Clash of Civilization team member
