      So if Karn were to be destroyed or dismantled or devolved, would it be possible to recover Urza and Gerrard?

          I guess that depends on how you do it and what they're doing at the time.

          For example, in the Apocalypse novel, Commodore Guff falls easily to Yawgmoth's malevolent smoke because he's distracted.

          And before that, Urza incapacitates Tevesh Szat with electricity or some such.
