  • Clue 6: No mouse, just joystick. I used my trusty Zipstick pro which gave the ultimate in control at this game.

    • Nice clues Doc. That's inspired me to think of loads more games that fit the bill exactly.

      • Well then maybe you should guess some games then. That is the point after all.

This just makes me think that ok SWOS was a bad guess(as its been done), BUT it sounds so like it that i just have to guess Sensible Soccer - my brother could make the ball do some mad curls after shooting/passing the ball, and always beat me

          • It still doesn't get around the problem of having three different members of each team. And besides, it was easy to swerve the ball. You just had to hold the right direction immediately after shooting. Kick Off 2 was worse, because you could run directly at the goal and then when you reached the edge of the D, shoot and bend it into either corner to give the goalie no chance of getting it. Even this wasn't as bad as the ability to score directly from kick-off, whereby you just ran to the edge of the centre circle in the opposition's half and did one of those huge clearance/lob shots by pressing shoot and pulling the joystick back. The shot sailed over the goalie's head and into the back of the net.
Playing 2-player this made an absolute joke of the game, because you couldn't get your players to tackle the forward quick enough to stop him scoring. You just had to wait for your kick-off and your chance to lob his goalie.

Forwards/defenders(+goalkeeper)/midfielders(i meant that of course )? but its just a guess, and it hasn't(surprisingly) been done yet.

I'm thinking it might be something so obvious, yet am expecting the good Doctor to insist on the correct version!

You got any ideas? i seem to have a senisoft blockage going on

oh and i could curl the ball, but the zip and bend my brother could put on it made my attempts look pretty feeble. Thats why i liked SWOS more - i could just manage the team

              • I need more clues!
I still reckon that it's not a sporting game, or at least not a traditional sports game.

                • I know i can feel the evil genius behind that Monkey Island avatar

Still i'll just keep beating my head against this wall a little longer

                  Sensible Soccer 1992/93 season edition?

maybe he'll crack eventually and give another clue

                  • CoT has it.

I wanted Sensi 1.1, and decided beforehand that SWOS would not do since it didn't fit all of the clues, in particular the one about the 3 stars in each team.

                    Sensi 1 wasn't a sequel and hence wasn't correct.

One of my all time favourites, Sensi soccer was great fun and, like all great games, had enough depth skill wise for it to be a great MP game too.

                    Over to CoT.

                    • well V1.1 was going to be fourth on my list - after

Sensible Soccer International Edition and Sensible Soccer International Edition CD32

SWOS still gets a run on my miggy(when its working!) and is still a great game

That sensisoft grip on me must have been the force or something

Ok a game coming up before 23:00 GMT

                      • A Zipstick Pro eh? I had a rubbishy joystick from WHSmith that lasted for years and years and I can't even remember the name of it. I got a fancy analogue "pilot" one with the fire button on top for your thumb just to play flight sims, but it made Knights of the Sky worse, and I wasn't too keen on any of the others. It was alright for Midwinter, but nothing beat ol' faithful. A traditional, arcade game style joystick, but with fire buttons on both sides, because for some freaky reason I always preferred to move the stick with my right hand and press fire with my left, whereas old arcade machines, and most of that kind of joystick, were built the other way round.

Hehe you were close enough with 92/93. I just wasn't going to accept SWOS.

nah - i cant play it that way

Amiga/PC/console releases in one form or another. I played the amiga version.

Proper Clue1: the intro was memmorable as was,to some, the failure to win.

the game involved aspects of teamwork, yet simulated a form of dis-unity for the players entertainment.
