Compiling the ctp2 code in 2016

Before starting I wanted to say that I already searched through this forum and found many posts similiar to this issue and haven't found a solution. Since links die over time. So I thought it would be good to start a thread and go step by step to a working solution. Bare with me, I live in the woods with no internet and it can be days between responses, whenever I'm in town again.

I just copied the CTP2 code and opened up the civctp.dsw in MS VS 2008. Got these errors:
fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: '.\y.tab.c': No such file or directory lex.yy.c
fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: '.\lex.yy.c': No such file or directory

What do I do?
