    wasnt that last month?

  • #2
Yes it was last month, my source code installer is dated October the 28th of 2003. By the way you can check it if you go to the very beginning of this forum.

Still see this game as the best empire building game every made. Playing the Alexander scenario shows that the progarmers had much more in mind if they were given more time. I can see many of the game designs in CTP2 in other games. It has aged well.
Do you think by spring will will see the udate to CTP2 finished?I know some call it Apolton patch for CTP2 2.0
But goals might be higher like a revamped ai maybe Peter Triggs new Diplomod. A big problem could be finding this game anymore. All this work for a game only some could play if their lucky to own a copy would be to bad. Have to hope for a rerelease like CTP. Just the CD no manual.

We generally refer to the first official patch as "CtP2: Apolyton Edition". Generally, we can't give any estimated times on the release of the first version of CtP2:AE. We had a discussion in late summer, I think it was, about whether the current version was suitable as a CtP2:AE release, but it was decided that there are still several important things to do before we make a release.

Well, organize us some programmers who are able and willing to spend a lot of their time to this game and we can release something within the next months.

Thanks Solver. I have made my own copies of the game to at least keep me playing untill the program will no longer work on new computors . Been on other game forums and still see CTP2 and 1 get a mention. They know the code has been released but no one knows what the end result will be. I think your playing it smart not to throwing out something that is only a little better than 1.11. Been reading the updates and its seems that many are getting a handle on how the ai thinks. Now I only knew how to tweak files but love tring my hand to see if I could get a better result. I like to keep the ai thinking defense but to keep many units building up along borders. Like in a game of chess. Hem in the enemy so he has no where to go and opennings for offense. I know this means extra units to cover cities as well as blocking human develoment

Yes actually, current build is better for singleplayer than 1.11, but doesn't have multiplayer support, which is why it isn't official.

And yeah, if we had a team of programmers come in and sign up for the project and work on it constantly, we could well release something this winter .

The source code has been made public, but how about copyright? If CtP is truly in the public domain, there should not be a problem with distributing it either by download servers, torrents or whatnot. No reason to worry about it's availability.

It's not public domain. And likely never will be. See the FAQ for more info (topped thread in this forum).
