the shadows are.. well... SHOULD be a unique grey.. the magic wand on a loose filter should be able to pick it up and fill them black...
or a paint bucket fill on a loose fill on a seperate layer...
there is no way (at least in my expierence) that I know of to render models on 3dsmax on seperate layers... or as objects invisible or not.... I wish there was...
mechs are harder to do (well anything with a "bone structure") because of the inverse kinematics involved to animate them properly, orf they will look like walking stick figures.... but I can do it... I actually enjoy to
