you lost me at 'SVN' have a look in the topped thread 'source code FAQ' thing - it might help until some of the programmers pop by to answer you

i read the topped thread. This is the right position
"D) Am I allowed to use a CVS server to develop the game? (added 2003-11-6)

The EULA forbids keeping copies of the source code for reasons other than backup. Using a CVS server would require you to keep a copy of the code for another reason (i.e. to coordinate the work of several people), so is therefore strictly speaking not allowed.

Activision's interpretation is that the use of CVS servers and similar tools is allowed, as long as anyone who has access to the code has agreed to the EULA."
But this doesn't say that a cvs server is working or not.

k_brother, there is a CVS server running for the efforts put toward porting the code into Linux but there is no CVS for the Windows version. It's not that we haven't thought of it but rather we haven't find or better say searched for an available machine to host a CVS server.

However, there is a thread where altered source files are posted and from time to time they're put all toghether in an archive. Also from time to time a compiled version of the code including the alterations are posted.

So far we haven't really had a need for a CVS server -- the current system of using the forums works just as well. But it wouldn't harm to have one, so the next time Markos is on leave from the army I'll once again remind him of our request.

Loc, there won't be a need for that.

I am thinking seriously to rent a dedicated server to host the websites I have or will have built pretty soon. I will be able to install a CVS and depending on my available time a bug tracking system as well.

Well, that would certainly be helpful...

i hopefully looking forward. A cvs server would mke the update of the altered code so much easier as the current forum solution. But this is better then nothing.

SVN is subversion, a compelling replacement for CVS. Look into it before you go off and do something rash.

                    Keygen,

just want to remind you of the EULA (IIRC). You have to be say yes to the EULA, before you can access the source. And an open CVS-server might be a problem there.

                    Only a friendly reminder

anarchie, there won't be any rush on my behalf.
It will take me some time before I get and setup the fore mentioned server and I'll make sure to have a look at your recommendation and to some other flavors of CVS out there.

                      Thanks Gilg for the reminder
I always take EULA seriously and always prompt people for possible violations to it
