  • It has been discussed earlier in the thread.

Making these types of decisions online is a challange.

    • May be a poll would be appropriate...

      • I'm kind of in favour of aiming for 1024x768 if it comes down to a choice, only because even on my pc(a very old crap one ) i can run the game in that resolution. So i cant imagine anyone having the 800x600 restrictions.
If say this was chosen would it be possible to stop people chosing 800x600?
Did we have a discusion on which resolution to aim for - i might have missed it ?

        • This has been on and off all the time. Even on my (bit newer than your CoT) I run 1024*768.

So at least for me, we shall be able to say, let's get rid off low-resolution.

          • maybe the poll should be for this? that way atleast we will know what we can achieve on the screen design(UI) issues.
I can only think that people with less than a P90, with less than 48mb, with no graphics card would find running in 1024x768 a problem. Are there any of those left?

                • There was a huge outrage when it turned out Civ3 didn't support 800x600 (and a slightly smaller one when this happned for RoN). Apparently there are a lot of people who like 800x600 better than 1024x768. The reason for this is a total mystery to me, but if people want to have it and it doesn't have significant downsides, I think continuing 800x600 support would be preferable.

The UI should be designed such that it works on all resolutions anyway (or have different versions for different resolutions): why would people with 1600x1200 or 2048x1536 resolutions have to suffer from the fact that there are still a lot of people who have hopeless out-of-date 1024x768 screens?

                  • To get this threat not too poluted I opened up this thread

Might be also a good way for gathering a bit more information.

Unless we can make it, that it would automatic resize, it will be a major headache as every GUI would need to be programmed different. And as you can change resolution ingame, this might NOT be possible.

                      • My solution of using panels that can be en/disabled would go a long way.

Also, it should be quite easy to define different sizes for listboxes and the like for all common resolutions, without affecting the rest of the UI.

Just wanted to warn people that this stuff also has some programming limits.

And yes, your idea is fairly resolution independent.

                          • Now I don't know what thread to post on.

One suggestion is to keep the current city manager screen as is for the lower resolution(s). (Though I would LOVE having a center city on screen button.) Then put our efforts into making Hex's vision of a city screen come true.

                            • I was also thinking about this solution but as I am not a programmer I didn't know if it was possible at all...
