  • DESIGN: Recording basic history as part of the savegame

Thus, when you win (or quit *smiles*) you could replay history, with the civ colors spreading over the map as your influence expands, and a ticker noting your technological advance and military victories?

    maybe exportable as an avi/mpeg?

I guess you could export parts from the msg log into a txt file, keeping it as a history of the game, or even look at in-game when you view the hall of fame and when you click on each event you see the minimap of the period.

Id also like to see Demographics and Top 5 cities return!

This sould be kept in the save file itsself, otherwise open the text file and edit the history a little bit. In the city data structure there is already the founding year and the founder stored.

I've never understood the point of a replay.

I vote yes. That was something that I always enjoyed after civ1 (did civ2 have it too? I can't remember).

It's always fun to see when and how the world came into your control

OK something more practical for the civ replay, it is obviously that the map is somewhere saved, so we need to know when each city was founded and we need to know when these cities changed their owners and of course who was the owner. In addition we need data about forts or any other tile improvement that adds borders. I know that there is a founder field in the city data object maybe we can add a change hands record. I don't know how killed cities are handed to they stay in the city list as dead cities or are the according city objects deleted.

We also need to store delta changes (size changes)

Oh hell yeah! Maybe by the time I get around to playing my recently acquired copy of CtP2 for the first time it will be fully fixed! Well, perhaps a tad optimistic, but Demographics, a Top 5 Cities and a replay would be great. Of course you;d need to define the Demographic values... same as Civ2/3, anyone?
