    • Locutus, a note on those AIs. True, beating Cradle on Very Hard is, well, hard. So is beating Civ 3 on Deity. However, on Regent, many players still find Civ 3 pretty challenging, and sometimes even have a very hard time against the AI. On Regent, however, AI receives no bonuses compared to the humans - same production, science, starting units and whatever.

But well yes that will now shut me up some .

I can't say now if I am available at this time... the week-end is very far away from now and I think that I have a Live Role Playing Game near this date.

        • Linux?

Hey, i used to play MP here ages ago for a short time, about the time you guys got the source code. i havent been here much since. during the time I have been converted away from the Evil Microsoft and have embraced open source. however i was woundering, what happened to the Linux Port. Im sure you guys where doing one, has this stopped now?
Then i remembered thinking to myself "Holy Jesus what are these god damn animals"----> "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"

See question 10 of the FAQ - there was and possibly still is work being done on one or more linux ports, but it's not part of the "main" Apolyton effort. You might be able to get access to the CVS for the linux port if you're interested.

            • I think one also has to consider the personality of the player when dealing with AI. There are people that want to play a game (i.e. build a strong nation, fight select wars etc) then there are those that feel the game is some IQ test and they try to prove how smart they are by beating the AI by looking for exploits etc. (I hope that doesnt across as mean and its not directed at anyone I just notice those two types when people port in the Civ3 forums about its AI)

I personally am in it for the game so I guess I put some restrictions on myself and if I learnof an exploit I opt not to use it. Anyways my two cents is that I'd liketo see an AI that adds a more game feel, like having different strategies, styles, and goals perciv than having an AI thats supposed to out smart me.

This is definitely the category I am belonging to though I also like to think when I play a game. This might explain why Civ3 does not appeal to me.

                  • We are close to the 500 posts limit of this thread. It is time to think about a new CTP2 Source Code Cafe. Should we call it CtP2 Source Code Cafe II or would you like to give it another name or attach a nickname to the same title?

                    • In regards to the gaming style, well, I want my game to be challenging and I want to have to think while playing to bea tthe AI. Howevre, I will not use any game bugs, exploits or such to beat the AI, but I try to beat it through superior planning leading to a better economy and military. In CtP2, my preference has always been with a big nation with a moderate amount of troops, but where all stacks are only of the best combination possible.

                      • I think the first thing you learn when playing a new game AI, is what you can "get away with" and what will get you killed. After plenty of games you know exactly when are the "safe" moments and when are the "dangerous" moments, thats when the AI is beat. How you would prevent this i wouldnt know right now.
