  • DESIGN: Governments wish/request thread

First off I like the Ctp2 different variables for governments it beats any of the other civ series. But with the code there is hope for new adjustments.

    1) I'll mention what Civ3 govts do, NOT for information, actually so I can get a reply from Tamerlin who will tell me "Stop distracting people from fixing the bugs, I want to start up a new CtP2" Just kidding Tamerlin, your posts keep us in the real.

Free units for certain city sizes
    Govt specific improvements
cost of units multiplied by X number
"new" fascism govt is suposed to eliminate a pop as ethnic cleansing
xenophobia doesnt allow any culture buildings

and really thats all I can think of for differences, civ3 govts are real bland

    2) I add this from the econ thread. on micromanaging (and this may open another thread) is that I think the type of government you have should determine how much you can/have to micromanage. I.E. a despot has to micromanage everything. In a Democracy a lot is "locked" in governor mode. This may apply to battles where an Ai governor may direct movement, people maybe appalled at that but if as head of state you want oto run your wars turn to a Fascism or something.

BigMc said democracy would blow b/c the governor would suck. My reply would be that he'll probably make a better despot managing things. It would be one of disadvantages at democracy, to balance governments and change play style for humans atleast and to suit certain player micromanaging moods.

    3) I'd like to see a Senate or paliament (cant remember seeing this in CtP2, I usually hand at corporate republic) for democracies and republics that can block you from wars or maybe some improvements.

My concept for governments was including an isolationist government: for those that chose to or find themselves in the situation.

Essentially, have government types which are beneficial to small (empire size... ultimately <=5 cities,) tightly packed empires. Trade should be essential, but highly profitable.

It gives another path to play, rather than the current system which rewards only expansionism.

yes but moders need more gov commands

Absolutely, use the source to allow for more SLIC flexibility, and any other choices that may be needed by the modders...

...leave the governments as they stand for the default game, and just use the source to give the modders more options.

wouldn’t it be good to make it that a technocracy could create androids say and a command function in technocracy that changes slaves on the city manger to androids or in any gov later on in the game with the discovery of robotics

Interesting idea instead of hunting for slaves you just would build robots.

But in fact these robots would be a new pop.

Governments in CTP2 offer more complex trade-off eg production vs pollution vs gold vs research than in Civ3 and so need little change, except perhaps for war-weariness, as I have never really suffered with an unhappy populace at war in CTP2

I never suffered from this in CTP1 in single player, but in MP it's a whole different story. When you have hundreds of units in the field the war discontent can really bite.
