  • The act of debugging should be called "Pest Removal System."

Or in our case, "Parker Removal System."

Also, removing any code I wrote will probably fix a lot too.

I can answer emails on writing IN slic, but you'll have to direct questions on C++ to either Pyaray or MrOgre because my coding style is what is known as 'kludge' in programmerish, or "hack" in writer's jargon.

Pyaray and MrOgre can attest to this: I am NOT a hacker. I couldn't break into a car with a 10-lb bag of nuts and bolts and a suitably long trajectory arc.

In order to get a better idea of what to expect I've been browsing the sources of some of the open source games on the market. CTP2's code can't be any more confusing than some of the stuff I've seen.
Even the Freeciv code base? Their LXR source code browser is quite nifty if tou just want to look at the code. http://www.freeciv.org/lxr/
Skeptics should forego any thought of convincing the unconvinced that we hold the torch of truth illuminating the darkness. A more modest, realistic, and achievable goal is to encourage the idea that one may be mistaken. Doubt is humbling and constructive; it leads to rational thought in weighing alternatives and fully reexamining options, and it opens unlimited vistas.

          • Anyone have an insider update on the ETA for the source code?

Are they still at the comment review stage by the legal department or have they moved past that now?

            • Call Activision Customer Service. They'll have to pass the info on.

              • I'm thrilled to hear of the source code release.
Put me up for programming ASAP!

                I use VC++ 6.0.

I also can do documentation because I love to write (you should see my code comments for a real horror show )

I also think that the use of a cvs is necessary in order to collaborate efficiently.
So much to do in so little time...

                • We documented the heck out of the code. Make sure you ask ATVI's CS for it, because we spent a lot of time writing that stuff, and if someone WANTS to read it, they should have unlimited access, especially if you can add to it.

Ask for Mark Lamia. He can get that stuff for you.

Yeah, well, let's set up one at sourceforge.net or berlios.de , they offer heaps of services for free.

Oh, and finally we'll be able to port CtP to OpenBSD

                    • But... the most important question... under what licence is it going to be released? BSD-style or "shared-source", something else?

                      • BSD. If it's anything else, it's not even gonna get a CHANCE to work.

Trust me on this one; MrOgre would've wanted it that way.

BTW, when was the last time anyone say MrOgre, anyway?!?

He hasn't been online (on Apolyton) for over a month (and his last post is almost 6 weeks old)

                            • Just a small update, I have heard from MrOgre more recently than most of you. The last update I had about this was on Monday, and he wasn't quite done yet. He's been really busy. But it has not been abandoned.

I guess it's good news... at least we can assume, thus far, that everything is still moving normally...
