  • The Ages Of Man

Just in case anyone has missed it, The Ages Of Man has gone public and will ship next month.

    The Website is:

    Apolyton Thread link is:

AOM is due to ship by Mid April. Time is still available for minor changes to some things.
AOM has many special historical units, made up of WONDER UNITS and HEROES.

The ancient WONDER_UNITS are; HAMMURABI, RAMSES, NEBUCHADNEZZER, ALEXANDER_THE_GREAT, CAESAR.
The Medieval WONDER_UNITS are; BARBAROSSA*, HERACLIUS, SALADIN*, CHARLEMANGE, MONTEZUMA*, SOLIMAN_THE_MAGNIFICENT*, SUN_TZU* AND WILLIAM_THE_CONQUEROR*.
Wonder units with a * after their name are limited to the wonders available to the specific governments of the middle ages.

Ancient HEROES ARE;XENOPHON, EPAMINONDAS, HANNIBAL, SCIPIO AFRICANUS, MARIUS AND VERCINGETORIX.
Medieval HEROES are;BELISARIUS, CHARLES MARTEL, RICHARD THE LIONHEART, BOHEMUND, DE LA VALETTE, ALP ARSLAN AND EL CID.

I would like to include one more Ancient and one more Medieval Hero. If you have some favourites, you can suggest up to two, one a new one and one a replacement for an existing one.

I will start the ball rolling by suggesting LEONIDAS as a new Ancient Hero.

I was about to suggest Leonidas, i watched The 300 Spartans yesterday

I seriously know next to nothing about ancient and medieval history but what about Darius the Great? Wasnt he in one of the previous versions of Cradle, or some other mod, i forget.

Darius I (Old Persian Dârayavauš): king of ancient Persia, whose reign lasted from 522 to 486. He seized power after killing king Gaumâta, fought a civil war (described in the Behistun inscription), and was finally able to refound the Achaemenid empire, which had been very loosely organized until then. Darius fought several foreign wars, which brought him to India and Thrace. When he died, the Persian empire had reached its largest extent. He was succeeded by his son Xerxes.

        Hi E,

The readme can be downloaded from the AOM website for your info.

Genghis Khan comes with the Mongol Horde and is a bad guy. Never considered Tamerlane because he was a Genghis Clone. Cortez is a Wonder Unit in the Gunpowder era.

Pizarro will keep in mind (if you give me more information abour him) as well as Darius.

          Stankarp:

How about some medieval land heros such as Richard III, Henry V, Richard of Burgundy, Duke of Norfolk, Montezuma?

Or some sea heros like Columbus, Francis Drake, Lord Nelson, Magellan, Amerigo?

Montezuma is a Wonder Unit, comes with Chichen Itza for Theocratic Monarchy government in the middle ages.

Henry V was one I thought about:-)))

I wouldn't suggest Cromwell, that's more renaiscance. Put him in the same era as Washington et all.

For a medieval naval wonder, what about the Navy Shipyards at Kiel? Or the Viking expedition to North America via Iceland and Greenland?

For ancient naval wonders you could have the Egyptian expedition round the tip of South Africa (Cape Hope is it?).

Another hero I thought of is the Ottoman Suliman II.

AOM is principally a land game, it revolves around land based resources. I have not really tackled the sea side of it. Better programmers than me have not solved the problems in that area.

Soliman the Magnificent is already in as a Wonder Unit for Sultanate, the government that follows Caliphate. He comes with Golden Horn Wonder.

There is only one gunpowder wonder unit so far, Cortez. By the time you got to that period, leadership was still very important but there was less of troops changing side and certainly less slave taking.

Hywel Dda - gave laws that welsh people had the benifit of living under, a beacon of light in the medieval period some consider it. He championed the rights of the downtrodden and setup a very progressive set of laws that ensured freedom for indivduals, rights for women and set measures for compensation claims. Pretty advanced for the time, especially as much of the laws welsh people enjoyed then are only historicaly recent adoptions in our present day laws!!

I've put a number of links in the other thread for you to have a look at
'The very basis of the liberal idea – the belief of individual freedom is what causes the chaos' - William Kristol, son of the founder of neo-conservitivism, talking about neo-con ideology and its agenda for you.info here. prove me wrong.

Bush's Republican=Neo-con for all intent and purpose. be afraid.

yes slave taking, but what about defecting troops or raising guerrillas or collaborators. I've always hoped for an SF unit that "captured" units and turned them into guerrillas.

                        ctp2 version

                        I'm sorry if I missed a point.
I tried to ask this question directly Via your web site "Contact us" but I got only an invalid referral.

I have a Ctp2 Italian version of the game, Do I have to get the english one?

                        Thank you

                          I am not sure,

Have you been able to play any of the English Language Mods like Cradle or Med Mod?

If yes, then you should be able to run AOM.

If not, then probably not and will require an English language version.

Maybe some of the people at the source code forum will have more information.

You should be able to run any mod on any language version, with one small change: You will probably need to copy the AOM_* prefixed files from the ctp2_data/english/gamedata folder into your ctp2_data/italian/gamedata folder. Do this before selecting AOM in ModSwapper (or if you already have, then start an Original Game to reset the file system). There shouldn't be a file conflict, but it will mean that you can only play AOM in English, rather than Italian.

Unless anyone wants to translate it...

                              City sizes and radii...

Stankarp, did you leave the same citysizes from Cradle?

Just curious - I posted in the Source Project forum about the odd (wrong?) values, and if there's a reason for the oddball numbers I'd like to know what it is.

Short summary: in Cradle, the third outer ring of tiles has 24 tiles, but requires only 12 workers. Each worker is thus doubly productive. For the fourth and fifth rings, 14 workers are required for 12 tiles, for a -15% production penalty.
