  • Has anyone done a quality scenario?

Ie along the lines of captain nemo's Red Front for civ2?

ie heaps of special events, popup messages, special units, historical AI (via scripts and events)

    Hi, Colwyn

ie heaps of special events, popup messages, special units, historical AI (via scripts and events)
That's what it's all about around here. For a comparison of Civ2's 'language' with SLIC:

The closest thing we'd have to red front is the World At War mod. Takes the period 1900-1950, turns monthly, with a fairly aggresive AI.

The War of the rings(WOTR) scenario is looking pretty decent to me so far

Well there are quality scenarios, but id like to see a full Earth map WWII scenario, with events, new and special units, new terrains, tile imps, city sprites, goods, lovely. I started one myself (the remains are in the ctp2modders 250server or whatever its called) but i realised it would be pointless finishing without events, so i zipped it up and left it.

War of the Ring is, IMHO, certainly the best scenario around at present.

Ok ta I'll check it out, Ive been away from CTP2 for a while and thought there might be a whole lot considering its potential for mods compared to Civ3 for eg.

Is there another reason other than people not making time to do them??

Well thats what there is, mods, and not so many scenarios. If i knew SLIC to write events id be knocking scenarios out once a week..... or not.

Even i could steal some ideas from existing scenarios in terms of scripted events but its the troubleshooting that stops me dead. If someone could write a small guide with ready to use examples to make basic events that can be pasted into scenario.slc that would be great.

Maq, once you talk somebody into it (...somebody anybody???)

May I suggest that you make an almost straight up copy of Cap'n Nemo's Red Front and 2nd Front.

...ohhh baby, now that's the good stuff.

Remember thats what i was doing when we were playing PBEM i was saying i was playing Red Front at the same time i got everything there, some imbalances in units still exist of course, but when this sourcecode thing releases a fix for scenario turn bug and some other bits hopefully the savegame will still be compatible and ill resurrect it if someone wants to do the SLIC.

I remember, but I thought that it was for a full world ww2 scenario kind of like "2194 Days of War" I'm just confused, I suppose... maybe I'm on the verge of going senile.

but of course, only if the scenario editor gets fixed, you learn how to do events, and can find the time

Scenario Editor fixed? So far it doesn't contain a slci editor, so nothing to fix with it, just a lot of stuff to add if also non programers should be able to use slic.

When I was toying with making a scenario a while back, there seemed to be a definite bug in the "city style" buttons.
This was the only real problem that I ran into. Of course, my knowledge of the text files was limited, but after tinkering with them to my satisfaction, and bugging people with it on this forum. I came to the conclusion that it could have only been a bug in the scenario editor.

If there are any other bugs, I'm unfamiliar with what they are, since everything else seemed to work ok.
