  • Download the unit Updater2 for the Super Apolyton Pack v2.0

As the number of versions of the unit Updater on the previous thread can be confusing I am creating a new thread where you can download the latest version without having to browse the whole thread and figure out by yourself which one you should download (thanks for the suggestion Peter).

The version you can download is the Updater2. The only flaw of the original Unit Updater was that you could only update your units in the turn you discovered the advance triggering the process. You could not update your units in the following turns and this was really a problem in the ancient age when you don't necessarily have enough money available to update all your units in the same turn.

With the Updater2, you can now update your units whenever you want.

The zip file includes an Updater2_Readme.txt that explains how to install the Updater 2 and use it.

Be careful, the AI civs also use the Updater2...

    Have fun!

Hi Tamerlin, quick question. In the read me you included in this version of the updater you say we have to copy three files into the program, but when you install the zip this is done automatically. Is this copying really necessary?

    Thanks.

      Hi Tlatoani,

The Zip file I have posted holds more files than the last zip posted by Peter in the previous thread and Peter included the "unzipping" path.

In my zip file, some of these files are not meant to be copied into your CtP2 folders to be used (the worksheets for example) and I have not included the path where they must be unzipped as the said path is varying with the local versions of CtP2 (and because I have not yet really tried to learn how to use this feature... )

As far as the zip file posted in this thread is concerned, I am thus considering you are unzipping it into a temporary folder before copying the files into the right folders.

I installed this version of the updater and it works fine. Unfortunately, it did not work by reloading slic in the middle of a game, so I had to start a new one. But it works fine, and the worksheets are a plus. Good work.

I think I got it right, but I never trust myself when it comes to programming (hence I'm not a programmer)

I want to add this new updater path to the Updater2. Is what I'm doing correct?

By all means more power to them

              Thanks again for your help.

                That seems correct Tlatoani...

If you are afraid of making a mistake just backup the original file, if your modded file does not work you will just have to replace the wrong file with the copy of the original one.

EDIT: if you want to keep the original rules the costs of the upgrade are not good, it should be 460 for Array 31, 1400 for Array 32 and 2500 for Array 33.
The code of the advance triggering the upgrade from Warrior to Swordsman should be (ADVANCE_IRON_WORKING)

                  Thanks Tamerlin.

I changed the cost of “soldier” units. My logic being that they’re already trained soldiers, you just have to train for, and equip them with, new weapons. Hence their cost are 2/3 of the amount necessary to train new recruits/draftees. I left tanks, planes and ships at the original cost.

I could reply that the training of a soldier used to lances, swords and ancient time warfare is not very useful when it comes to guns, machineguns and modern warfare.

But the magic of CtP2 is that you can change (or at least the modders can ) every aspects of the game to build the game of your dreams.

That's right, if it was a discrete change. However, the evolution of weapons, at least in Europe and Asia, was gradual. Guns existed side by side with swords for a long time. So it can be argued that the training of soldiers didn't change that abruptly and hence the cost should not be too high. How high is too high? That leads to..

                      I totally agree.
So blessed be the modders, for they shall inherit the game.

Peter, don't you think we should ask Locutus to put the Updater2 into the Directory?

Yes, that's probably the best place for people to download it.

OK Peter, unless you prefer to do it yourself, as designer of the mod, I can send a PM to Locutus pointing to this thread where he can find the files.
