  • Cradle III PBEM AAR - EPW

    This is a PBEM game between myself and Maquiladora using Hexagonian's brilliant Cradle III mod. We are running the the latest Apolyton Edition available here. Both of us are going to post our progress through history in separate threads. You can find Maquiladora's AAR on the site WePlayCiv.com. We will try to update our progress every 10 turns.

    Link to Maq's AAR.

    Civilizations

    I will be playing as the Mighty Incans! In Cradle, each Civilization has different traits like in Civ3 and 4. The Incans have some of the best:

    - Incan Traits are +10% Production, +3 Happiness, +5000 Gold and 10,000 PW every 100 Turns, and -50% PW Costs for Roads, Mines and Mine Shafts.
    They are easily one of the best Civs in the game.

    My opponent will play as the feeble Harrapans:

    - Harrapan Traits are +10% Production, +2 Happiness, +2 PW Interest per Turn, and +2 Religious Influence per Turn.
    Not bad, I'll have to make sure he doesn't get a religious victory though!

    As for the AIs, only time will tell...

    First turn coming shortly.

    3000 BC - 2980 BC :: Turns 0 & 1

    After thousands of years of wandering through the plains our people decide that its time to settle down in one place. (Coincidentally, 11 other tribes have just gotten the same idea). We see distant shorelines, and hope to settle beside a great ocean.

    After what feels like years of travel, we are thoroughly disappointed, its only a lake.

    Still, its better than nothing and its teeming with fish. We decide to settle our Civilization's first city.

    We notice that there are a lot of tasty animals about, maybe in time we will learn how to breed them in captivity so we no longer have to hunt for food. In the mean time, we start to build a scout in hopes of finding new animals to eat.

    Next update on turn 10.

    Note: I'm not going to try and role-play the civ or this AAR. The small amount of color I added above is as far as I will go in that respect.

      2980 - 2900 BC :: Turns 2 - 10

      We finish our first scout in 2950 BC. Just beyond the city gates they meet some wandering travelers who tell of a colossal monument being built in a distant land called Carthage.

      Our continues on along the river and makes great progress. They find ancient ruins in a forest grove, and speculate that it may have been left there by our ancestors. On exploring the ruin we find 244 gold.

      We finish our second scout in 2920 BC and send him south. They also find some ancient ruins, and upon exploration find a band of hungry nomads who beg to join our peoples. It was not long ago that we wandered the wilderness alone, and we pitied them and let them join us.

      We sent the nomad south to a fertile field covered in an orange flower, in hopes that they can build a city for themselves. However, along the way they meet another band of nomads. They claimed to belong to a mighty nation called Turkey and told us all this land belonged to them. They seemed powerful, and we gave them 100 gold and told them we would leave their land immediately.

      Meanwhile, our first scout finds a mountain range to north and an empty ruin. Our nomad follows the river North Eastward in hopes of settling find away from the Turks, while our second scout scouts out the border.

        2890 - 2800 BC :: Turns 11 - 20

        Our diplomatic overtures with the Turks pays off: we manage to exchange maps and agree to a peace treaty. On the map we received, we noticed a ruin inside their borders. We decide to risk an incursion to investigate. Our effort pays off, as we find a chariot unit and manage to rush out before we are noticed.

        In 2860 BC, we found our second city, Machu Picchu east of Cuzco.

        In the mean time, our northern scout finds another chariot in a ruin.

        Our luck continues as another scout sent out from Machu Picchu finds a nomad in a ruin!

        Next update in 10 turns.

          2790 - 2700 BC :: Turns 21 - 30

          There was a lot of action on the exploration front this round.

          First, we find 267 gold from a ruin in the tundra.

          Then, in 2790 BC and 2780 BC we meet three more civilizations: The Romans, the Persians, and the Sumerians. We manage to exchange maps with all three.

          In our new maps, we see two more civs we haven't met yet: our human rivals the Harappans and the Han.

          Further exploration of ruins gives us two more nomads and a chariot.

          We found the city of Chimpote with one of the nomads we found, and settled near some great woolly beasts.

          Finally, we finished researching Agriculture and began researching Projectile Weapons.

            2690 - 2600 BC :: Turns 31 - 40

            We founded two new cities within three turns to start this round off. We founded Cupisnique on some elephants and Paracas next to a gold resource.

            We decide to give the Harappans aka Maq. a scare by sending our chariot into the heart of their territory. We approach a lone nomad and demand tribute in exchange for their lives. They had the audacity to refuse and our men prepared for battle.

            But at the last moment a messanger arrived from the capitol ordering them to return home - preparations for war against the Turks were underway.

            The other two chariots were also recalled and began their long journey home.

            In the mean time, we finished researching Projectile Weapons which granted us slingers. They would be key in our war efforts. We began researching Horse Riding.

            We also found a nomad and a slinger in ruins.

              Cancellation Notice

              Maquiladora and I have decided to cancel this AAR.

              1. It doesn't appear that there is a lot of interest.
              2. It's a lot of work to keep something like this updated.
              3. It's pretty clear where the game is headed...conquest of an AI or two by each of us. Then war. Furthermore, there are some balance issues which need to be addressed that aren't a problem in a single player game.
