  • N00b!!!

    In advance:
Im a total newb to this game. Totally disappointed by all those newer 4xgames out there I decided to adjust my attention on older games of the TBS genre. One of these is called CTP2 and thats why Im here on these forums...

    When it comes to mods:
OK, I installed my game, patched it to version 1.11. Everything runs smooth and fine. But now bc I read that vanilla AI seems fairly stupid I want to add some mods. And here the questions come into play. I have focused on 4 mods:

    1. Source Code Project 930 (yes I know that this is NOT a mod...)
    2. Apolyton Pack 2.0
    3. AoM 4
    4. GoodMod (dont know whats the current version)

Is it possible to mix these mods? Or maybe some of them? Is there a mod already included in another one? As I see AoM was originally started by Dale. How comes that it is now published by Stankarp? What is the TFWFTW project? How can I check that Ive installed Apolyton Pack 2.0 correctly? I have no visual differencies when starting it via Mod Swapper. Then I read somewhere there should be included an ultragigantic map but I cant find it. The readme says there should be other difficulty settings. But I cant find them either. Maybe I do something wrong? Should I take other mods then the before mentioned into consideration? Are there other useful tips you could provide?

OK, many many newbie questions. Hope my english scribblings are readable and I gain some answers to one or another question...

GoodMod is included in all of them.

IIRC Dale's project was completely separate, they just share a name.

    What is the TFWFTW project?
    What's TFWFTW?

As long as you start (or save the option) via modswapper the game will start with Apolyton Pack as the default setup. If it's not installed correctly it probably would've given you an error.

Should I take other mods then the before mentioned into consideration? Are there other useful tips you could provide?
Call to Conquest, Cradle and Medieval Pack are all excellent mods. As is World at War if you like WW2.
Call to Power 2: Apolyton Edition - download the latest version (12th June 2011)

You didnt say anything about mixing. Or maybe a suggestion which mods have a leading edge over the others...

Ah, I see. Hm, do you know both? What do you think of each of them? Dont be reserved. Tell me your impressions...

Tell me your combination/current mods. I will give them a try later on when I understood the game concepts...

Cradle/AoM focuses more on the ancient and classical eras. CtC has no focus IIRC, and the other two are fairly obvious. They're all well developed though.

I don't think Dale ever released his. You can easily find plenty of positive comments regarding Stan's AoM around here though.

        No idea what that is.

I only play and modify the Apolyton Edition at the moment.

I thought CTC was one of the funnest mods. But like teh rest they get very hard towards the mid to early late game.
