  • CTP2: HotSeat okay ... PBEM no!

    hello,

    after installing CTP2 (german) and the official patch 1.11, i edited the spnewgame.ldl for play-by-e-mail and hotseat.

    hotseat ist working so far, but PBEM stops creating savegame-files on the desktop after turn 0 ... means:
    no CTP Email To Player1 (Turn 1).c2g
    tested on 2 different win98SE-machines with 1,1 and 1,3 GHZ CPUs and 256 / 512 MB of RAM. tried it even on small map, with 2 humans and 1 AI - no success.

    is this problem a known one? any ideas for solving this?

    another little problem is the sometimes missing prompt to the next active unit. do i have to live with that?

    best regards

    Hotseat and PBEM were not fully working in the 1.11 version of the game.

    If you use the CtP2 Apolyton Edition Hotseat and PBEM should work much better.

    You can download the Apolyton Edition here: http://ctp2files.apolyton.net/source/

      thx for your fast posting. tried that apolyton edition right now - nice starting screen
      but no change in the problem. PBEM for two players on a small map. player 1 ... player 2 ... and then it's over. no new saved game on the desktop

        Did you enter all the information it asks for?

        Email for player 1 and 2 (you don't need to use a real one though)
        Name for each player etc.

        It works fine for me.

        You will need to start the game again if you started it with 1.11.

          i think so.
          2 human players, names, no real email ...
          created a new PBEM for testing.

          player A does its turn and creates "CTP2 Email To B (Turn 1).c2g" on desktop. player B plays this file and creates "CTP2 Email To B (Turn 1).c2g" on desktop. after that, no new file will be created.

          2 players on a small map same as 8 players on a huge map.
          same as before with 1.11.
          same as on the machine of my girl friend.

            And you didn't load the game from player B?

              Strange, I tested it just now and it worked fine.

              It shouldn't matter but how did you install the Apolyton Edition? Over a clean installation or over the 1.11 installation?

              Also did you give the 2 players different email addresses and names?

                sorry, little mistake

                player A does its turn and creates "CTP2 Email To B (Turn 1).c2g" on desktop. player B plays this file and creates "CTP2 Email To A (Turn 1).c2g" on desktop. after that, no new file will be created.

                installed it over a 1.11

                yes, different names, different email (not real ones ... without @)

                  I would try reinstalling CtP2 and just the Apolyton Edition, without the 1.11 patch.

                    Then load "CTP2 Email To A (Turn 1).c2g". By the way the first turn is turn 0, but it changes if player A ends turn. Actually it should change when the last player changes its turn.

                      When it has been done then it doesn't matter anymore.

                        I know it shouldn't, but I don't see what else could be wrong. That is if he is doing it right.

                          Well there could be a problem in the code, but I looked up the save naming and apart from that it names the first turn "turn 1" instead of "turn 0", there is no problem. I also checked the turn count progression and it is advanced as it should, well if you don't mess up with the cheat editor.

                          So now is the latter case is left, that he does something wrong.

                          -Martin

                          P.S. I made it so that the first save game now says again "turn 0"

                            @ martin:
                            that was my problem:
                            file names with "Turn 0" appear only during the original game and with patch 1.11

                            but let me explain ... i tried again a new game - only 2 players:
                            player A = Amerikaner
                            leader = Ami
                            mail = ami@yahoo.de

                            player B = Brasilianer
                            leader =Baby
                            mail = baby@yahoo.de

                            the game starts with round #1. player A plays his turn, and after finishing, a file is created on desktop:
                            CTP2 Email To baby@yahoo.de (Turn 1).c2g

                            player B plays this file. after that, a new file is created:
                            CTP2 Email To ami@yahoo.de (Turn 1).c2g

                            player A plays this file. but after finishing, there's no new file created. the old file "CTP2 Email To baby@yahoo.de (Turn 1).c2g" is overwritten.*

                            player B plays this file, and a new file has been created:
                            CTP2 Email To ami@yahoo.de (Turn 2).c2g

                            * this was my problem - i missed the newly created file. how should i know that this one file is getting overwritten?

                            thank you both for your quick help.
                            pit

                            PS:
                            my advice for numbering the files:
                            the first human player starts the game - he needs no desktop file.
                            all human players except the first one play round 1 files.
                            after finishing their turn and leaving the game, all human players create round 1 files - except the last human who creates a turn 2 file, which is played by the first human player.

                              And the next playtest will do it again. (As I said)

                              Actually the overwrite stuff shouldn't happen, I have to test wheater the problem still exists afterwards I made the above change.
