Some years ago (somewhere around 3 or so) I was all into CTP2. I have played it again recently (though the original version) and wanted to get back into using the mods again, but I forgot how! I thought I remember having to extract files into a certain directory or something in order to use them, but my memory fails me. Can someone help me out here on using mods?

Here's what I remember from long ago............

I remember using ModSwapper, Cradle and a scenario where you can only have one city. I thought I remember the website where I got help on having a brown/tan background, and someone saying something to the effect of, "wow! It's good to see a female on here! Our wives always get mad at us for playing the game so much!" The unique user name of "Immortal Wombat" rings some sort of a bell, and some of the mods look vaguely familiar. I thought I remember having to go to someone's personal website in order to get cradle (it may have been another one though)

Anyway, I'm sure once I have my memory refreshed on how to get started it'll come back quickly. Thanks in advance for the help!

You have a pretty good memory. your in the right place. Immortal wombat doesnt hang around here much and hexagonians cradle is still around. But a lot of other stuff has been going on, such as the Apolyton Edition playtest and Ages of Man.

I didn't play mods much but Maquiladora or some of the other guys should be able to help

You can download mods and ModSwapper (or a newer program, ModManager) from the files directory here on Apolyton. Most should have a "readme" that will tell how to install (usually just unzip into main CTP2 folder). The "One City Challenge" scenario is now a mod.

The mod directory is here: http://apolyton.net/dir/index.php?t=sub_pages&cat=28 but (if you have the means/patience to download 500MB) I would go straight to playing Ages of Man mod. It's based on Cradle so the difficulty won't be so unfamiliar to you, but it has a lot of new features.

The FULL (500MB) AoMII link is here:

don't forget to get the AoMIV updates from the website too.

I think everything you need (modswapper, official patch, installation instrctions etc) is included in the full mod zip in the first link, be sure to follow the instructions in both too.

Thanks for your help! I've been playing cradle again. I don't know about the 500MB Ages of Man, as I am in a rural area where the only way to connect to the internet is dial-up.

I have another question.............. Is there a way to use more than one mod at once, like a major one with the mini ones, for example Visible Wonders and Natural Wonders with Cradle, etc.?

There is a way to mix mods but it requires some work on your part. Mostly you'll have to know how to merge slic and make sure the text files are correct.

Check at the nearest public library, and see if they have high speed internet access available. You can download there and burn the files to CD or DVD to take home. That is what I did when I was without home access for a few months.
It has been a while, but I seem to recall being able to pick more than one mod with ModSwapper or ModManager (e.g. Apolyton Pack + Med Mod). The ReadMe for ModSwapper or the Mods should tell you if this is possible or if my memory is just playing tricks on me.
