    Hi,

My recommendations after a gruelling AOMIV game (and of course also based on Stan's advice)

    Difficulty: 4 or 5
    Barbarians: 3
    Map: Gigantic
Shape: earth (this also looks as the most logical representation of a planet, based on the Mercator maps where a sphere is projected onto a flat surface (and yes, Mercator was a Belgian )

    Wet-Dry and Warm-cold: 50%
    Ocean-Land: 70%
    Islands-Continents: 70%
    Uniform-diverse: 80% or more
    Goods: 70 or 80%

    Number of AI's: 10 or 10+
    Pollution and Bloodlust ON
Our Civ??? Every civ in AOM has its benefits, and has its default Middle Ages government type and religion. So there are many options here. I usually play with Greecs, but that's just me (they give an increase in Science and Production, ánd I always look forward to the Teutonic Knight and Knight Templar in Middle Ages). For a more battle oriented game, Romans could be a good choice. Anyway, just look at the Strategy Guide for a full list. Extra boat movement is not a very good choice sine there is so little water in an AOM world

If I remember correctly, the Quick Start option is gone in version IV of AOM, although the World at War option is mislabled as Quickstart. (If I'm wrong about this, I opt for No, I want to start with one Settler and one Unit and go for the full epic experience)
AI Surrender Option Yes (default numbers)
    Rebellions: Yes
World at War (mislabeled as QuickStart): yes

    Looking forward to this!

The price to pay for +2hp, love those super strong units

IMO +5% of anything seems too weak until you have big cities so I avoided those, +10% is good enough but no good trait combinations, just +10% commerce on a couple of civs but they have +1 boat move too, so it's not worth it.

Even with Vikings, after turn 300 we can still choose Eastern Christianity and Theocracy Government (if I understand this right), but with a short happiness penalty (-5 happy for 5 turns). Thats a long way away though, we may prefer something else when the time comes.

If I remember correctly, the Quick Start option is gone in version IV of AOM, although the World at War option is mislabled as Quickstart.
Yeah that confused me a little too, I guess Stan just didn't rename the popup title.

      Looking forward to this!
Me too Just waiting for Protra and E to post their preferences. Then I'll take the rough average for each setting and see what we have.

I have downloaded AOM2 and the update AOM4.There is also a tile set that goes wiith the new update.
Now its a matter of getting evrything to work.Did E make a scenario setup to add with the other ones found in CtP2?Like the Civ3 nod.

For AoM I did a long time ago but not sure it works. Tellius has had success in running AoM on the AE. Hopefully he'll say how he did it.

            Hi,

E, I opt against AOM on AE for this game, I did get it to work, it made AOM a lot harder early in the game, but from turn 50 or so onwards, the time it took the computer to process a turn became unbearable (I'm talking enough time to walk your dog!)... I'll give it another go some time soon (especially since you guys fixed the transport lag problem, that just might have been part of the problem), but for this succession game, AOM on regular plain vanilla CtP2 is my best recommendation.

We don't need any scenarios for this game anyway I guess, aren't we all looking forward to a full, epic game (and if anything, AOM is epic!).

Yeah, we're using the vanilla game here with AoM IV. Best to play it safe and use the most stable base.

E and Protra let us know your preferences.

I'm good with anything. I'm going on vacation to Turkey for three weeks at the end of august. I should still be able to participate but maybe we should send a response/skip time. Say if the person who's turn it is doesn't respond in 24 hours we skip until they popup saying they want to a turn, or something to that affect.

No problem E. We'll do something like a 72hr skip period, if a player doesn't reply within that time after the previous turn we'll skip to next player.

Only options I differ in opinion on is
                    difficulty of 5,
                    earth shaped map,
                    wet dry of 6,
                    and max diversity.

I can play in a little over a week, so that can mean somewhere in the first round?

Yeah we should be around the middle of the first round by then. Probably start the game around Saturday.

The average settings so far look something like this:

                      Difficulty: 5/6
                      Barbarians: 3/4

                      Map: Gigantic

                      Wet - Dry: 5/10
                      Warm - Cold: 6/10
                      Ocean - Land: 7/10
                      Island - Continents: 7/10
                      Uniform - Diverse: 9/10
                      Goods: 8/10

We just need to decide what civ we are, since it's very important to how we approach the game. Here are the options:

                      Civilization Traits

Each Civilization has some traits that commence on turn 3 and continue to turn 300. During the middle ages each Civilization will have access to one Religious wonder that confers additional Civ traits until the discovery of Gunpowder.

I think AoMIV changed the advance that obsoletes the Middle Age wonders from Gunpowder to Mass Production.

Sounds good. I could go for the carthaginians but is the sea movement necessary? I was under the impression that AoM does mostly land maps.

I just realized I should add some of those AoM civs to our AE since we can have more than 65 now...

I haven't got that far in my other game yet, but it does say that under the AoM III changes in the AoM IV readme.

Extra sea moves will be useless 90% of the time, but the Vikings are the only civ with +2hp units, so you can't be matched by any civ with equal units.

My second favourite would probably be any +2 happiness civ because it's an immediate bonus like extra HP. The other bonuses would seem to take a long time to give any advantage.

I support viking because from what I know of AoM, there is a huge advantage for early military success in the form elites and generals. Although the benefits of 2 hp will minimize in time, it is huge early. It is somewhat of a high risk investment compared to going for happiness, which is also leaves open the option of religion.
