  • Best CtP2 patch for my preferences?

I've been playing civilizaton games since 1999 when I got Civ II, Test of Time. I found certain aspects of that game incredibly tedious (and incredibly stupid, such as losing an entire stack of units just cause one bit the dust), and I picked up CtP1 and enjoyed it MUCH more.
I purchased CtP2 several years back and actually found it not really any better than CtP1.

I was thinking about getting into CtP2 a bit again, and I was pleased to find this site today while searching for a patch for CtP2. Wow! You guys are doing some amazing work.

I understand this question has probably been asked a lot. I looked over the FAQ's and I would like to install one of the many mods here. Yet, there are so many choices I don't know where to turn! Mainly, with CtP2, I was annoyed at the fact that it seems that the "Infrastructure" building option to increase public works that was in CtP1 was removed. No more setting public works to like 10% or 20% and letting a few cities contribute all your PW while letting other cities produce at near 100%.

I also found the empire size limit, which incurs a happiness penalty for having too many cities, VERY ANNOYING. The empire size limit did not seem nearly so restrictive in CtP1.

    My question is:
Are there any mods out there that address these two issues? It's an added bonus if the mod improves the game in some other way too. I am not interested in multiplayer.

Any guidance on this would be GREATLY appreciated!

    Welcome!

the Apolyton edition, linked in my signature, i know has infrastructure fixed.

as for city limit you can edit it yourself by going to default/govern.txt and change the city limit values there. maybe I should make city limits a rules option
Formerly known as "E" on Apolyton

May I ask what the problem with infrastructure was as I always remember it being halfway down the tech. tree but still available (even without any patches)?

On city limits maybe it would be best to reduce the penalties for exceeding the limits to allow larger empires at a price?

OT - I'd recommend the Apolyton Edition as well. It has plenty of useful little features and bug fixes, whilst also being continuously updated to stop the new ones that appear every so often.

Infrastructure is later in the tech tree in CtP2 compared to CtP1 I think. It requires Mass Production in CtP2.

You can change this quite easily by opening advance.txt from ...\ctp2_data\default\gamedata and looking for "Infrastructure", delete it from Mass Production and put it under something earlier like Industrial Revolution.

          Hi,

The AE version is in fact a "super-patch" for the game, if you would like to try an actual mod, I higly recommend Ages of Man (version IV is the latest one). You have to install it on Call to Power 2 (regular edition) with the official Activision Patch (NOT on AE, it will work someday, just not yet).

This Mod has infrastructure available a lot sooner than in the regular game, but the penalties for empires being too big are still there. The game lasts a lot longer, with a stretched out ancient period. It's the perfect dish for the lover of epic games.

OK, so I downloaded all the patches, but off all errors, this has to be the most annoying. I cannot install patch 1.11 because the patcher says "Unable to verify the location of Call to Power 2 on your system. Press OK to exit the installer." I DID NOT install call to power 2 anywhere other than the default directory. I am running Win XP. Any ideas of what is going on?

With Win XP you need to use the "manual" install version of the patch. I still see a link in the misc. sxn of CTP2 download files here. Be forewarned the game will still have some bugs and stupidity. The best thing is the ability to adjust the text files to your tastes, and the Source Code people slowly turning it into a well executed game!
